"Jay Leno is going back to his 11:30 PM time slot, and it's looking like Conan O'Brien is the odd man out ... sources tell TMZ.

We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien.

We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot."

I love Conan, but don't think he really fit in at the Tonight Show or its audience. He is much better just having his own show where he can do whatever the hell he wants to. The Tonight Show audience is a much different audience than Late Night With Conan Obrien was/is.

After the first two weeks or so, I haven't bothered to watch the Conan show very much. He's not allowed to be wacky, he's stuck with crappy LA guests (especially musical guests), and the stage is too big.

They've thrown a ton of money at building the new Leno show, as well as a ton on moving Conan to LA and making the Jimmy Fallon show the prettiest show on television. The Jimmy Fallon show is so bad, I can't believe that NBC feels it's better to let Conan go than to give him back NYC and 12:30. Since Conan is not a 12:30 option, I've watched Craig Ferguson almost exclusively.

On top of that, the Carson Daly show has moved to a taped format recently, so there's no need for it to be a nightly thing that comes on at 1:30. No one watches it anyway, so why can't it be a weekend thing and give Jimmy Fallon a show like the original Later?

Jay Leno has always sucked but he pulls in the audience who doesn't want to be offended or be forced to think. I get that. That doesn't mean that Conan didn't do a good job sucking post-Letterman audience away from CBS for ten years.

just get rid of Carson, take Jay back to 11:30 and Cone Dog back to 12:30

Carson seems like he's getting left out anyway...move Fallon in his spot

I don't even think Carson has a studio anymore...on the rare occasion I tune into his show he's always doing it from the middle of a bar or some low budget shit

I was always a little surprised they got rid of Leno given his ratings. Just didn't make sense to me. Sucks about Conan though, back in college my night wasn't complete until I watched his show at least up to the first guest.

I bet they even try to sell it like Conan's still doing "the tonight show"... just at a different time slot

bullshit

...

you know what they SHOULD do... give Craig Ferguson the tonight show... and give him fucking free reign... it's fucking 11:30... goody goodies should be in bed anyways...

he's so fucking awesome, he would KILL in the ratings

And Wanda Sykes is the worst anything in late night.

I'm glad that TNT decided to keep Southland going. I thought it sucked that Southland was canceled for the Jay Leno show.

the whole concept of a late night show is long over. it started as a way for adults to watch shows that were "edgier" without worrying about their children seeing it. nowadays, shows that push the boundary much much further are on during primetime and the late night shows end up doing bad segments on "funny sentences in newspapers" b.s.

just slot them in at normal time slots and try and get an audience

Kimmel is awesome.

Leno is absolute shit, by any standards.

Letterman has his moments, but I'm afraid he's washed up.

Ferguson. . .I really can't decide. Sometimes I crack the fuck up, other times, I feel like a couple of my uncles could have his show.

I tune into Fallon just to see what type of completely random, nonsense shit will go down from time to time.

and yes, Conan has gotten QUITE boring.

There are few people on television less funny than Leno...
Even serious people sometimes manage to be funny on accident/in spite of themselves.

Leno is just constantly swinging and missing.
And when he tells jokes that may have been funny from someone else, he manages to kill them with awful comedic timing.

NYTimes is saying Leno to 11:30, Conan at 12, Fallon to 1:00.....not sure if Carson is included in this.

Leno sucks, always loved Conan, have really warmed to Fallon, in fact I really like it now.

older people love leno and don't find conan funny. conan just has a smaller audience, which is why he was failing.

Leno was crushing Letterman at 11:30 and NBC decided to fuck it up. Now Leno has been exposed in prime time as an unfunny douchenozzle. I doubt Leno gets his ratings back if he moves back to 11:30.

Conan isn't getting killed, his ratings basically tie lettermans, and he wins in males 18-45 (supposedly the most profitable demographic).

Yeah the problem with nbcs move as I heard it this morning isn't that conan is doing poorly, though that's part of it (the lead is gone). It's that lenos show is so bad both for it's timeslot and for affiliates night news shows.

NBC's Thursday night is still awesome for the most part to me, though...

Also, I am going to be seriously if Conan is really being dropped. Just a thought, but would FOX have any inclination to pick him up in that time slot if he is dropped? I mean all they play is syndicated shows at that time in most markets (Seinfeld or The Office)..

[Edited on January 8, 2010 at 1:20 PM. Reason : i see most people arent conan fans... i do agree he never fit the Late Show mold though]

NBC to Conan O'Brien -- The Choice Is Yours
Posted Jan 8th 2010 7:25AM by TMZ Staff
NBC has given Conan O'Brien the option to either do his show from midnight to 1 or leave the network, sources tell TMZ.

As TMZ first reported, after the Olympics, Jay Leno will get his 11:30 PM time period back. We're told network execs have told Conan they will let him decide if he wants the midnight to 1:00 AM time slot. If he does, Leno's show will only be a half hour. If Conan walks, Leno will get a full hour, informed sources tell TMZ.

Our sources say Conan has not decided what he wants. We do know he's pissed, because he was given no advanced warning this was coming. Conan's people told NBC they are considering the offer. Translation: Mr. O'Brien -- I have Rupert Murdoch on line one, Stephen McPherson on line two, John Landgraf on line three, Jeff Wachtel on line four ...

We're told if Conan gets another offer, even though NBC could block the move, they will let him go and give Leno the full hour.

Stay tuned ..."
