So people's panties stay unknotted...

I thought the plot was pretty straightforward...
12/20/2009 1:45:03 PM
right but people in the other thread are getting upset about spoilers
12/20/2009 3:12:30 PM
I posted this in the other thread with a better spoiler warningFrom what I remember Norm's Avatar was shot a few times and he was disconnected from it but they never actually show it dying or dead. I assumed the trauma was enough to disconnect the operator and when he fell out of the link machine he was clutching his shoulder and arm, not necessarily mortal wounds. Plus at the beginning the commander talked about how hard it was to kill the Na'vi because of their carbon fiber bones, etc, etc.
12/20/2009 3:39:59 PM
yea but norm was standing beside max, so it couldnt be him.
12/20/2009 5:04:25 PM
Was he? Hmm, I guess I'll have to go see it again to make sure, not that I need an excuse to do that.
12/20/2009 5:36:46 PM
so the 3D version has more/difference scenes?

I thought it was retarded how every other creature on the planet had air intake valves....except for the blue thingsalso, there were other avatars, we just never met them. its possible another avatar driver sided with the natives and decided to stay behind[Edited on December 20, 2009 at 5:54 PM. ^yea that is what i assumed, just seemed kinda random
12/20/2009 6:21:17 PM
they just wanted more avatars with guns in the final scene I guess haha. I saw it in 3d not imax, I guess this means I need to go see it again if IMAX is that much better?
12/20/2009 7:41:27 PM
all i know is that i couldn't stop giggling for the first 15 minutes. 3d imax is that epic.
12/20/2009 10:50:57 PM
I left in manic laughter.

Funny how they made such a big deal about the poison tipped arrows when the arrows turned out to be the size of a spear.Like there's going to be a dude with an arrow through his heart, lungs, and spine and some other dude comes up and says "It's alright man, I've got the anti-venom!"

Oh, I love how everything is bioluminescent, touch sensitive, and tightly connected... it's like the iPhone is a planet.

The non IMAX 3D glasses I have were unevenly polarized, which made it really hard for me to keep a proper 3D effect. The image kind of inverted for me at some points.Once i accepted this though, i was able to enjoy the move. Honestly, for regular theaters, I don’t know if the 3D is worth it just based on the inconsistency of the glasses.I’m assuming the IMAX still uses the synchronized LCD shutter things?

^^no just regular polarized glasses. basically they were a slightly more comfortable of the 3d glasses you get on simulator rides.

i mean, if you got hit in the leg with one of those arrows, your leg would have probs, but you wouldnt die unless it had poison
12/21/2009 4:06:52 PM
You probably wouldn't have a leg and would die soon from rapid blood loss
12/21/2009 4:39:46 PM
I thought it was extremely predictable. As soon as you hear the story about the toruk, you know homeboy is going to end up riding one of the damn things. You know Michelle Rodriguez's fine ass is going to defect. You know as soon as Sigourney Weaver gets put on that tree what's going to happen to Jake.To say nothing of the fact that the entire thing reminded me immensely of "The Last Samurai" with more blue and killer mech-robots. And yet, in spite of all of that, I was too completely in awe of the whole thing (particularly at IMAX) that I do not feel like these are major complaints, and normally they would be.

I groaned when our friend the Colonel started throwing around terms like "preemption" and "war on terror." Those terms don't even make sense in the context that he's discussing, and I felt like they were forced just because James Cameron wanted to use them. You knew the moment he communed with Enya, that the planet was going to rise up when all hope was lost to save the day."Dances with Samurai... in SPACE!" was the description I preferred.Maybe I've lived in DC too long, but when I left the theater, the first thought was how these folks are ultimately screwed because while they had won their planet back temporarily, humanity was likely to return in a decade or so and orbital bomb the living snot out of the sacred tree and all the villages. You don't even need nukes: just rain large kinetics down upon them.Still, I overall enjoyed the movie. It was a lot of fun and beautifully done. Supposedly, Cameron wanted to do two sequels if the first one did well, and given the impact of its opening weekend, I say we can look forward to seeing the saga continue.

^Yeah I thought the same thing. In fact, oddly enough I was reminded of the movie Signs, when the kid says something along the lines of "If we do beat them, they will just return later, it might be hundreds or thousands of years later, but they will return"

If it had to sum this movie up in one sentence, I'd say:
