Just a question, how bad would it be to rewrite the main TWW pages to be AJAX powered? Depending on transaction loads it could save a lot of processing power on the server. Would be an awesome holiday upgrade

There are a lot of things about the UI i'd like to see changed. Using AJAX is one of them...but for some reason knowing that this entire site was built with tables bothers me more.
12/20/2009 5:36:01 AM
LOL 10/10++++++++ THREAD WOULD LAUGH AGAIN
12/20/2009 12:05:51 PM
Yeah, more gradients and rounded corners, too, please.
12/20/2009 2:06:54 PM
I think our first move should be a wind powered TWW.
12/20/2009 3:02:22 PM
I'd be happy if they could just make the ads not stall the shit out of my page loads. (disclaimer: I'm assuming its the ads but haven't actually checked yet)
12/20/2009 5:01:15 PM
Talage, you'll be pleased to know they have just invented adblock.
12/20/2009 5:28:53 PM
^ I knew you'd say that.
12/20/2009 10:01:55 PM
Lets just make it TWW 2.0 and pump out new thread notifications on Twitter, sync galleries to Flickr, and all that other annoying Web 2.0 shit that kids these days love so much.
12/20/2009 11:29:20 PM
Even just a fresh coat of paint and a couple of new personalization features would probably do wonders.
12/21/2009 9:20:12 AM
I'm telling you guys. TWW is not sustainable unless we switch to a renewable power source.
12/21/2009 9:52:58 AM
Too bad it can't run on ignorance and bullshit.
12/21/2009 1:32:02 PM
cleaning is for women
12/21/2009 3:24:43 PM
I'd like to see T-Dub powered by rainbows and moderated by unicorns.
12/21/2009 9:39:44 PM
don't fix it if it aint broke.tables work just goddamned fine.
12/22/2009 4:28:12 PM
Not really
12/22/2009 4:32:54 PM
12/22/2009 4:54:16 PM
12/22/2009 4:56:45 PM

How the F do tables not work? Here's some text - you put it in a box. The text is in a box. People read it. Who gives a flying fuck? Sorry it doesn't have ivy vines growing around it and a little naked cabana boy cleaning the pool.... Pretty sure the point of this board is to READ FUCKING TEXT.[Edited on December 23, 2009 at 8:38 AM. Reason : s]

Maybe start herehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_HTML
12/23/2009 9:23:46 AM
haha, haven't checked back on this. lit that candle I guess...
12/23/2009 9:49:00 AM
hey so you know whatthreads here are not threadedthey are chronologically sorted lists of posts that belong to a common parenttables make sense for themtables make a lot of sense for them
12/23/2009 9:57:25 AM
Yeah buddy, but I don't think you get it.The code that draws all these boxes on the page. You know, the stuff that none of us see because we're too busy reading the content of the page. It's ugly.'valign="top"' you have got to be shitting me.[Edited on December 23, 2009 at 10:06 AM. Reason : and good luck finding a thead anywhere in this shitfest]
12/23/2009 10:06:10 AM
tables MIGHT be the appropriate layout mechanism for the threads themselves. but, and i know you're well aware of this, the entire site layout is made of tables. that's not good. there are 23 table elements on this page alone. at most we might need 1
12/23/2009 10:07:23 AM
Believe me, I get it. Table-based layout needs to die in a fire. But using a table to organize a table of data? That is tops.
12/23/2009 10:08:21 AM
-20 tables+20 divs+50 headaches
12/23/2009 10:16:32 AM
divs are generic block-level elements only meant to be used when an existing block-level element doesn't convey the correct semantic sensetables are fine for threads, which are tables of posts
12/23/2009 10:19:15 AM
Using tables for the thread body layout isn't The Worst Idea Ever -- it's their use for everything on the site that's the problem. I'd like to markup a clean, semantic, valid version just to see how much bloat we'd lose.--also lol
12/23/2009 10:22:51 AM
yeah, you could define them as ordered lists if you wantedbut people do edit them, you knowand your typical post conveys a lot more info than a simple list itemnot to mention there are more compatibility issues between browsers with lists and list items than with tablesuse your head
12/23/2009 10:32:17 AM
Yeah, I wasn't promoting the use of lists.
12/23/2009 10:41:48 AM
12/23/2009 10:49:31 AM
On this page, sir, there is no DOCTYPE declaration.
12/23/2009 10:51:29 AM
Couldn't quite read that last post...Could you try again in UTF-8?[Edited on December 23, 2009 at 10:55 AM. Reason : or at least ISO 8859-1 come on]
12/23/2009 10:55:31 AM
My favorite part is how the only elements on any given page which seem to have ID attributes are the HEAD and BODY, of which there is exactly one (1) each anyway.[Edited on December 23, 2009 at 10:58 AM. Reason : Post #44,444.]
12/23/2009 10:58:23 AM
LOL @ Solinari, not a section on TWW that hasn't been touched by his weak sauce trolling.
12/23/2009 11:26:32 AM
12/24/2009 4:01:28 PM
hmmm yes lets add some useless javascript to make a simple, yet functional site a wasteland of terrible web 2.0 shit.
12/29/2009 11:14:17 AM
lol. Shaggy is easily becoming my favorite comedian poster.
