Hey, they are cheap and easy to swap out. What are you bitching about? It could be the damn things Nissan was putting in their shafts that are permanently tacked in and for which nobody sells a replacement.

Or they could be CV joints and cost three arms, two legs, and a left nut.

I bought a big truck with 3 joints and a center bearing

center bearing was a pain to get off w/out a press

all 3 joints were a pain to beat out for some reason

AAP apparantly does not carry the correct bearing

AAP does not carry uprated greasable joints

as much as I had to beat on these fuckers it will be needing to get balanced fo sho

The carquest down here used to be a normal one. walk in, see the same guys behind the counter bustin their asses to help customers, you know what I mean. About 6 weeks ago they totally remodeled it and now it is more like an Advance or Auto Zone, complete with mexican employees and literally I was in there two days ago and a lil beaner was walking around the store with a feather duster. After Maria Conchita Gonzalez Ramirez Lopez Dominguez took 10 minutes to tell me a new transmission was going to be $2400 I told them I didn't recognise the place anymore and left.

That's because the original owner sold the store to Carquest. It's a company store now. That's why they remodeled it. Keith is still working there.

I used to work at that store. If you don't like the new look, head out to 40/42 store. It's still the same old. I used to work at that one too.

I started taking my driveshafts and joints to loop road, because it is totally worth $5 to have someone else install them.

Well I could have taken everything to Brakes, Inc but I figured I would just do it myself. I may still end up taking it there to get balanced.

I have 6-7 other driveshafts to get rebuilt as well.

One of my 3 advance auto BRUTE FORCE non greasable joints was a defect straight out of the box. I dont have a lot of confidence in these damn things but I am gonna try them anyhow. The seals do look really good.
The anchor brand center support bearing from advance was wrong, the alternate was wrong, so I had to go to the dealer. I am not wasting time with carquest or vato zone. The correct (on the 1ST try, WOW!) center bearing from dodge was $145. Install was surprisingly simple with a new tool I made from part of the old bearing and a sawed-off Discovery rear driveshaft. :busted:

I am checking the new trans over now, and I decided I am going to go ahead and reseal it myself before even testing to see if its gonna leak. Since it looks like I might be spending $100+ on the correct fluid I don't even wanna risk it.

I think I forgot to mention before, the loose shifter feeling I complained of was apparantly caused by only one of the 4 shifter mounting bolts actually being tight. Two were finger tight, and the remaining one was backed out. Bolted the shifter up to the new trans and it feels really nice even with no fluid in it. I am going to pirate the reverse switch from the old trans and get some details on the new one here in a few...
