i've got the serpentine belt off, disconnected the battery and alternator, and have removed the bolts holding the alternator to the bracket. the only problem i'm having is removing the alternator from the bracket.there are these two thingys ( ) that expand in the holes on the bracket and push against the alternator when the bolt is tightened. the alt. has never been messed with, so these have been sitting for a few years and the damn thing won't budge. any suggestions??? what have you tried so far?i'd stick a crow bar in underneath it and go at it.[Edited on December 10, 2009 at 3:11 PM. Reason : asdf]

Yep...pry that bitch out.
12/10/2009 3:12:32 PM
done and done. since it's not my car (and it's a cadillac) i was going easy on it. thanks for the help.
12/10/2009 3:15:47 PM
can anyone help me out with other reasons the battery is going dead every time the car is driven?i got the alternator checked and it's good.[Edited on December 10, 2009 at 3:59 PM. Reason : battery is at 2.5V]
12/10/2009 3:59:02 PM
Did you get the battery charged and checked?
12/10/2009 4:25:08 PM
Might need a new battery. They don't last forever. Have it charged and checked first though.
12/10/2009 4:28:41 PM
battery is only a couple days old and has been replaced a couple times recently. (again, this isn't my car so i don't know the exact history, but this apparently is a lingering problem. i'm just the one with motivation to fix it.)i figured a new battery was just being bought each time the thing ran it out of juice. that's why i went straight to the alternator.[Edited on December 10, 2009 at 4:50 PM. you've got a parasitic draw somewhere. they can be a pain to locate.
12/10/2009 5:32:13 PM
That starter could be fucking up too. It will kill a battery and if you have weak current going to the alt it could be putting a strain on it.
12/10/2009 6:10:15 PM
yeah, i have no clue what's going on with this thing. i pulled the battery to charge it and had it checked today. it's apparently bad now (less than a week old, but i guess something has been pulling from it the whole time the car is off).
12/11/2009 1:09:15 PM
I had a parasitic drain on a 03 Chevy pickup due to a blown 30A Auxiliary Fuse(one of three). I have no clue what that fuse does(no mention in manual or internet, could be many things I imagine.) Anyway, I can't explain it, but the fuse fixed it.[Edited on December 11, 2009 at 9:04 PM. Reason : I only had a 25mA draw according to my meter, but it ate two batteries before I found that fuse.]
12/11/2009 9:03:16 PM
get a meter to measure how much current is being drawn when there should be none. from there i'd start pulling fuses and see when it stops.
12/11/2009 9:13:59 PM
check the maxifuses like ^^ saidIf the battery was dead, and they jumped the truck its easy to blow one of those fuses
12/12/2009 11:01:20 AM
i checked the fuses and they looked good. i figure it's a short somewhere that i couldn't find.
12/12/2009 11:42:15 PM
here's a video of whats goingon when we start it the battery is not dead.
1/3/2010 12:04:40 PM
what do you have on it? jumping it from another vehicle or battery charger or what?to me it looks like the battery is very dead and whatever you're using to try to start it isn't strong enoughi had some crazy shit like that happen when i tried to jump off a lincoln LS once..and linda's explorer too actually
1/3/2010 12:06:30 PM
cody pulled the battery last night.it's at 11.5 volts.theres no drain from the battery as far as he can tell. and he hooked the jumpstarter on it last night.
1/3/2010 12:09:04 PM
11.5 sounds low and that doesn't tell the whole story.. sometimes it'll be that when no current is being drawn then drop to almost nothing as soon you as pull a lot of current, i.e. try to start the car. that almost matches what is happening.. lights/dinger are on and working fine when not much current is being pulled but it goes all to hell once you try to start it.i've had trouble getting cars to actually start from jump starters before also, esp cheaper ones. some weird shit has resulted.

You are not making a good enough connection with the jump cables- its a little tricky with the Escalade due to the battery size and orentation but can be done. Also there is an aux positive terminal, are you using that? You can clip the negative directly to the good bare metal spot on the engine. (where it has the arrow and says "GND")[Edited on January 3, 2010 at 12:45 PM. Reason : k]
1/3/2010 12:45:13 PM
so do you have a system in this thing or not?
1/3/2010 12:54:27 PM
just because it's an escalade doesn't mean it has a system. ^^ the battery is definitely in a tight spot. you could be right. i would think that jump starter would be adequate, and i KNOW it's fully charged. i can't locate an aux positive terminal, but then again, i don't really know what i'm looking for. i can definitely clip the ground to the GND location on the engine.-found the aux positive terminal. going to try and jump start again.[Edited on January 3, 2010 at 12:59 PM. still no luck.

1/3/2010 1:35:16 PM
The problem you are having is almost certianly a voltage problem, either the battery cable connections are damaged, or the battery has an internal fault, or maybe the jumper you are using is no good.
1/3/2010 2:03:20 PM
the jumper is good.we used it on another car a couple of days ago (unless its gone bad in those couple of days)and this is the third battery we've put in it the last two drained completely dead, if im not mistaken.this is the first one that hasnt.[Edited on January 3, 2010 at 2:55 PM. Reason : ^^and no it doesn't have a system]

Have you ruled out the starter? Had it replaced? That sounds like a dying starter to me. Check into it. glHad one replaced on the rents chevy truck because it was draining the battery and cranking reaallllly slow. Now it fires up like a charm and no drain. The drain you might be having could be due to the solenoid fucking up in the starter. [Edited on January 3, 2010 at 2:58 PM. Reason : .]

i have no ideaill have cody get back with you on that

since you replaced the battery and the alternator, check the starter solenoid resistancehttp://www.ehow.com/how_4509389_troubleshoot-electrical-system-cadillac-escalade.htmlhere are instructions on location and how to change it outhttp://www.justanswer.com/questions/176tk-i-need-to-replace-a-starter-on-my-cad-escalade-esv[Edited on January 3, 2010 at 3:48 PM. Just to toss something else out there, put the key in and turn it to aux, and turn on the radio.Go under the hood and grab hold of the wires coming off the battery and wiggle the hell out of them. If it cuts off, or the radio cuts in and out, youve probably got a bad connection.I fixed another car like this that had the screw in battery connections. Someone screwed them in too hard and fucked the connectors up on the wires. Replaced those and it was golden.Everything else checked out fine, the battery could just never get a proper charge due to the faulty connection.
1/3/2010 3:50:04 PM
thanks so much...ill tell cody to check this out

If you're having a really small normal drain current, leave a min/max/avg ammeter on it all night and see if it peaks while you're not looking. You can maintain the battery with a 2A charger while you're doing that.Just make sure you take that ammeter off before you try to start the engine. Last thing you need is having to scrape a melted ammeter out of the engine compartment.
