Has anyone noticed that their EA sports games have been showing advertisements. I knew some of this has been going on but even my Tiger 08 and Madden 09 games keep having some crappy goDaddy.com ad in them this week. You figure that paying $50 for a game would offer an experience advertisement free. Next thing you know pretty soon I will have to watch a full blown commercial before proceeding to the next hole, or my madden game will go on a TV timeout.

There's advertising in other games too. I saw an ad in Guitar Hero: World Tour

No different than product placement in movies.Unless you're talking about full scale commercials that take up game time, that would be annoying.

I've always been amused by the product placement in the Tiger Woods franchise. Win the big tournament so your character can afford that sweet Tag Heuer watch and the awesome Under Armour performance fleece![Edited on December 6, 2009 at 11:23 PM. Reason : which works, btw, because I want both of those items now]

the minute they put full length commercials into full priced games that are actually worth a fuck will be the moment when i cease playing newer games.

^^I'm guessing that Tiger Woods 2011 will have Henson and Fuerst/divorce attorney ads.

Between advertising and micro-transactions of game features (ex. all of the "extra" recruiting help you can purchase in NCAA), I would love to see how much more money games these days make than the used to 5-8 years ago

Ads aren't always horrible. I thought it was interesting seeing different movie posters in Rainbow Six: Vegas 2.

I remember when the Battlefield community went nuts when EA mentioned the idea of ads and the same old points about, "if I pay for it I don't want ads in there".

I'm not too surprised given that the cost of developing video games is growing at a pretty insane rate. As long as they do the ads in a reasonable way (not interrupting the flow of the game with commercials or breaking the realism in the environment of the world for example), I can live with it. So in sports games, having ads on the walls which are dynamically updated like they do in real life. Ads in a subway station in a game, I can live with. Zombies wearing brand new tee-shirts of favorite brands... that may be a bit too much.[Edited on December 7, 2009 at 4:54 PM. Reason : added an extra thought]
