Some developer looking to build a hotel on TX/Trinity lot. Source is Packpride. Looks legit. Here's the site plan submitted to city of raleigh (big file)http://www.raleighnc.gov/publications/Planning/Plans_in_Review/2009/Plan_Submittal_Maps_by_Type/Site_Plan/SP-075-09.pdf

WTFat every turn this university seems to find a way to screw things up
12/4/2009 5:33:58 PM
just because there's a plan doesn't mean it's gonna get builtthough i would not be surprised to see it cleared and just roped off

angry face!
12/4/2009 5:41:38 PM
wait, what is "tx" and how would this screw things up. This would be great, wouldn't it? The main problem with that area is that theres no good development within close proximity (ie not being downtown)[Edited on December 4, 2009 at 6:03 PM. Reason : and it wouldn't be the universitys doing anyway]

its right next to it. Look at a parking map of CF. they are both on trinity across from the fairgrounds, between CF lots and DOT.That hotel is gonna hate anytime theres a game... Or love it, as they will be full.
12/4/2009 6:13:06 PM
Rather than a hotel I think it'd be cooler and better for them to put up condos there. It's worked out great for South Carolina. Plus the pregame parties there are supposedly awesome. The units sold for a pretty nice chunk of change from what I've heard.
12/4/2009 6:13:47 PM
dont worry folks, they will take parking away from the students to make up for any LTR parking lost
12/4/2009 6:16:21 PM
i love tailgating in TX even if they steal the fairgrounds lot from the students to give to the alumni it won't be quite the same experience. oh wellz.
12/4/2009 7:08:53 PM
tailgating? thats what this is about? you guys are complaining about new development going up because it will change where you....tailgate? really? get some perspective. jeeze.
12/4/2009 7:13:20 PM
this is a good thing... its needed for the hurricanes to get the all-star game for one thing..
12/4/2009 7:16:23 PM
lame ass troll ITT
12/4/2009 7:17:08 PM
Shockingly, I find mambagrl to be the voice of reason in this thread. Development like this is 10 years overdue in that area.
12/4/2009 7:20:08 PM
12/4/2009 7:28:25 PM
but you know it won't. NC State will fuck it up somehow, like already stated, by taking away tailgating from the students, or jacking up the price in some other newfangled "lot"
12/4/2009 7:52:09 PM
i agree the hotel is GOOD.i like that tailgate spot.build the hotel somewhere else.

The condition of the lobby bathrooms during football games and fair season should be pretty wild.
12/4/2009 8:57:27 PM
I'm pleased that I have a Varsity/Staff/Faculty lot pass now.
12/4/2009 9:02:00 PM
There are currently 2 separate parcels that comprise the site proposed for the hotel. Neither is owned by the University. They both appear to be old parcels that have been left to heirs. Tax value on the 2 pieces combined is around 4.8 million dollars. I have no idea how much the Wolfpack club current pays to lease that land each year for football parking, but I sure hope they are at least considering a counter-offer on the property.
12/5/2009 12:03:48 AM
it's totally legitimate for people to be upset about this. Tailgating is half most of the experience in going to NC State football games. Do you think we would keep our stadium as full all these years that we've sucked if tailgating was not what it is around here?I've been to 15-20 other major college football stadiums and we have one of the best tailgating atmospheres around. It's a tradition where NCSU actually excels and if people are concerned about losing some of that then they have a legitimate concern. Especially with the plethora of ways we've been fucked by the university in the pastbut go ahead mambagrl, tell us how you know better than all of us

^ what he said really isn't a joke. It's been said by the NHL that before Raleigh can host an All-Star Game (which would bring in a shit ton of money to the local economy), the area surrounding the RBC Center needs to be built up more, i.e. with more hotels, restaurants, transportation, etc. Now, I am ALL FOR having an ASG here some day. But I think they could find some other locale to put this hotel, rather than taking over a good portion of the tailgating spots.
12/5/2009 12:41:33 AM
ASG >>>> drunk rednecks 600 feet closer to stadium than new spot
12/5/2009 1:00:02 AM
It's only worthwhile for the money it brings to the area. otherwise fuck some figure skating with sticks.
12/5/2009 1:03:25 AM
Maybe I'm just unaware of how big a deal the NHL all-start game is.
12/5/2009 1:03:56 AM
The economic impact is estimated to be somewhere around $20-25 million.
12/5/2009 1:06:41 AM
12/5/2009 8:55:09 AM
Only sensible thing is that the university is going to clear some trees, unless that land is allotted for a future use other than athletics...here is the property boundaryNo way they didn't have a backup plan in place for when the lease expired

[Quote :"tailgating? thats what this is about? you guys are complaining about new development going up because it will change where you....tailgate? really? get some perspective. jeeze."How is wanting to keep a sensational tailgating spot lacking in perspective? How exactly will a hotel enrich the area? There's already a crappy one down the street that is empty except for 6 weekends a year.I fail to see how this is a good thing.]i travelled to wake forest and VT this year, and duke and carolina last year. nc states tailgating is head and shoulders above these schools and i think a good majority of us would like to keep it that way. hows that for perspecitve
12/6/2009 9:46:31 PM
I do think that the area around the RBC Center needs to be developed a bit with some nice, big hotels and restaurants, but not at the expense of these tailgate lots. I'm not familiar with where else they could put these places, but even though I want them to be built, I don't think the alums should have to sacrifice their lot, or the students end up sacrificing theirs.
12/6/2009 10:22:04 PM
why would we need hotels near the rbc center when rtp is full of them?
12/6/2009 10:26:20 PM
Awesome ... overlooking the Football practice fields ...This is going to go well
12/6/2009 10:28:38 PM
Why is building a hotel the development we are wanting there? If they are going to develop it, let's at least get some more restaurants and bars.
12/6/2009 10:46:59 PM
aren't they supposed to move the stadium downtown at some point in the future anyway...?is it worth it to "build up" an area they're going to abandon within the next 20-30 years?
12/6/2009 10:50:32 PM
12/6/2009 10:51:12 PM
possibly, but i swear there was a thread on here a bit ago stating that.
12/6/2009 10:52:27 PM
so they should just hold off on local expansion because of something that may or may not happen in 30 years??riiiiight...[Edited on December 6, 2009 at 10:58 PM. Reason : .]
12/6/2009 10:56:29 PM
so we're just going to piss away money on shit no one will care about 30 years from now?that sounds pretty fucking fiscally responsible to me.I hate the government..
12/6/2009 10:57:43 PM
dude30 years is a long time
12/6/2009 10:58:59 PM
...
12/6/2009 11:03:33 PM
the hotel plans do not cross westchase... they will not be overlooking the practice fields, at least not as close as that picture above makes it look like, dunno how many floors it will be
12/6/2009 11:52:02 PM
once they move those LTRs to the fairgrounds lot, they are going to crack down on students because little timmy's parents will complain
