Has anyone else here tried this? Single player dungeon crawler. i stumbled on it while looking at penny-arcade's forums. As far as i can tell i would call it diablo-2 but not as dark. Apparently done by some of the guys who did diablo 2, in fact. Pretty fun. its got a demo that will last you a couple hours, and the actual copy only costs 20 bucks. its pretty good for a low budget buy.http://www.torchlightgame.comI've levelled a alchemist a pretty good bit, and now am going back to do a vanq on the hardest difficulty. much more fun IMO. Also, major game flaw thats easily corrected... no respec. There are several downloadable mods that allow you to respec though. Theres a pretty easy one to find if you just google search it. i will go ahead and apologize ahead of time if this has been brought up before... search function did not pull it up and it wasnt on any of the recent pages.

I'm pretty much done with Dragon Age and I'm starting this game up. I played enough last night to get to the first waypoint or whatever they renamed it to make it "different" than Diablo... even the music and sound effects are nearly 1:1 when it comes to a Diablo comparison. So far it looks like it will hold my interest. It's a shame that it's only SP though. One thing I noticed, I leveled about 4 times and I saw where I could add to my stats but I didn't see where the UI told me how many points I had to assign. As it stands I'm guessing that I have 8 stat points and 4 skills to assign or I could have 4 stat points and 2 skills. I have no way of knowing. I'm sure the available stat points and skills left is there and I'm just missing it. I'm still getting used to the game.

5 stat points/level. 1 skill point per level1 skill point per fame rank. I don't remember off the top of my head where the number is when the thing pops up but I know i've seen it.Vanq is kicking butt. got to 16 today. explosive shot FTW. The fact that i've got muled down gear from the alch i levelled before is helping a ton. vanq kills everything but survivability is zero. buying the map portals from the gem seller makes random dungeons you can crawl into, which is fun. Also, i read that there apparently is a horse equivalent to the cow level, which you get to by transmuting some rare item you can fish up. i wonder if it finishes with a "Horse king"....for anyone considering this game, if you liked diablo, you will like this.

I praised this game when it first came out, check the DAO thread. Actually it staved off my need for the 1.13 patch that coming to Diablo 2 that is going to add a LOT of content, and of course my want for Diablo 3.

I found where it displays the unused points. Hiding in plain sight.I'll have to read up on the 1.13 Diablo 2 patch. I haven't played since 1.10 was brand new.

theres a pretty good items database out there, and something interesting i read is that if you correspond what level your character is to what level the item you want is, you have a good shot at getting an item of your choice. so, for example, if you want the level 8 sushi hat, which gives + 20% fishing luck, among other things, level to level 8 and start using that character to gamble on hats. so i guess theres a strategy for getting specific epic items from the gamble guy.

This game is almost exactly like Mythos (which died when Flagship Studios went down), except for the part where you have to pay for it.

One of the developers posts on SA, it looks like a pretty sweet game. I would be more interested if it had multiplayer. He says they're developing an MMO in the "universe" for next year.

^about which I am torn. I'm really enjoying this game, but i really dont want to get involved in an MMO again...

I'm currently on floor 30, I believe that there's only 35 floors. I might play this one more time as a different character, might not.I can't quite put my finger on why this game just hasn't drawn me in like Diablo, Titan Quest, Sacred, etc. have. Torchlight is certainly a lot easier than those other games I mentioned. Also, part of the appeal in dungeon crawlers is to keep going in search of better loot. Torchlight dumps out good loot by the truckloads. Every piece of my equipment was magical gear with 3 or 4 bonuses each by the time I was level 4, which probably happened within 20 minutes of starting the game. I remember having a crummy non-magical leather cap for the longest time in Diablo. I guess I'm saying that a lot of the -keep playing to see what I get next- appeal is gone because the good stuff comes every few minutes. It's a decent enough game. I do like:They added the ability to send your hireling pet off to sell stuff while you continued on.You don't have to pick up gold, it's automatically gathered. It would be even nicer if they incorporated a list where you could put a check by items that you wanted to automatically pick up. So I could check magical, unique, set and then go about my business. Each item takes up one inventory slot. No more tetris to pick up that last itemI don't like:How the drops all fall on top of each other. If you use the Alt key you either have to pick up everything to get to what's at the bottom of the pile or you have to wiggle your mouse around long enough to select the item you want. For "bosses" I found myself just picking up everything, opening my inventory, and tossing the stuff I didn't want. It was a better alternative than taking the risk missing (not even seeing) some awesome item that was buried under 4 mana potions. I guess it doesn't matter though, since the next pack of regular enemies would probably drop something of equal or greater value anyway.I felt like I was playing the same level over and over. They did change the scenery up, but I guess it wasn't enough of a change for me. Even the bonus levels accessed via portals had the same themes as the regular levels. The bosses didn't feel very epic... if that makes sense. No multiplayer.[Edited on December 3, 2009 at 8:45 AM. RawRI heard they are going to tyr to make an MMO out of this. And this game was sort of a pilot test to see the markets reaction.[Edited on December 27, 2009 at 8:25 PM. Reason : gf]

Yeah I bought this when it was $5.I liked it, not enough to do much grinding though, especially since it's just single player.

I bought it this time around, and man its much better than the demo suggested. Diablo has serious competitor here, but Diablo 2 is STILL going strong. Can't wait for Diablo 3.
