i keep hearing these chris peterson to virginia rumblings, and just can't believe he would go for that. hasn't he gotten more high profile offers and turned them down?
11/29/2009 7:09:17 PM
it seems like UVA could be a good place to go but i believe i would wait for a better offer
11/29/2009 7:10:47 PM
Should we be worried about TOB going to UVA or is that a nonissue? I know he has coached there before and may still have connections...just wondering
11/29/2009 7:15:34 PM
Here are some other names floating out there for UVA (from the Charlottesville paper):http://www2.dailyprogress.com/cdp/sports/columnists/ratcliffe_on/article/if_groh_is_gone_whos_next_in_line/49251/

Butch Davis to UVA
11/29/2009 7:24:33 PM
Tuberville would be a good hire for UVA to jump back in the ACC mix. He might be able to grab a few players from the SEC dominated recruiting regions and bring in some good coordinators. Interested to see if UVA will pay enough money to get him or settle for someone less famous and pay less.Peterson is a longshot I think especially since he is moving far from his domain in Idaho. Charlottesville is pretty comparable to Boise though (small town feel in the mountains). Would he even be able to recruit in this area though? [Edited on November 29, 2009 at 7:53 PM. Reason : a]

I'm in grad school at Temple right now and everyone loves Al Golden and how he's elevated the program to being competitive. He is a very good coach. It'd be funny if they went off and hired Bud Foster away. It would be similar to how Michigan hired Bo Schembechler away from Woody Hayes' staff at Ohio State, and certainly worked out for UM.

A lot of talk about Stoops to ND right now.

Insider article on ESPN frontpage says "UNC's Davis a favorite for Irish job"
11/30/2009 9:54:24 AM
There is so much smoke out in the media about the Notre Dame job, much of it without fire. Part of it is traced back to ND's arrogance though. If Notre Dame has a lick of sense, they will skip the Meyer/Stoops laughers and go straight for Brian Kelly. If they mess around, they will miss on Brian Kelly and end up settling.I wonder if Cincy might go after Holtz if Brian Kelly leaves?Even though he won't end up in either job, Butch Davis will work a raise out of this.[Edited on November 30, 2009 at 10:19 AM. Butch won't be at Notre Dame... but it wouldn't surprise me if Stoops takes the ND job, that he would go to OU...There are a lot of haters of ND, but you would have to still call it one of the top 5 coaching positions in college football in terms of resources, money, prestige and potential, no?[Edited on November 30, 2009 at 10:33 AM. Fuck just college football...Notre Dame is the coaching job in all of sports. It’s bigger than North Carolina basketball, it’s bigger than the New York Yankees, and it’s bigger than the Dallas Cowboys.Despite all the ways winning there has been made more difficult in recent years, its still the premier program in the country, and any coach who leads them to glory will be a bigger deal than Carroll, Meyer, Stoops, Tressel, etc.
11/30/2009 10:55:14 AM
Notre Dame is the best coaching job in the country. Also, I'm posting from the 1930's.Notre Dame's time is done. They won't relax their recruiting standards and their fan base expects to win a championship every year. That is an insane amount of pressure for any coach to deal with.
11/30/2009 10:58:36 AM
The Weis coaching situation has held the sports world hostage for weeks now, and it’s going to be front page worldwide news once the situation is rectified.Do you think any other school would have the same level of press were it in the same situation ?When Florida, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, USC, Alabama, etc. struggle for a few years in football, its a big deal...they fire their coach and hopefully get back to prominence quicklyWhen Notre Dame struggles for a few years, everyone shits their pants...its a whole different level of scrutiny than anywhere elseI'm not saying its the most desirable job in the country...lots of coaches would rather be elsewhere the talent is more plentiful and the media is less scrutinizingBut its the most visible job in the country...the only school with their own National TV contractEveryone has an opinion of ND...you either love them or hate them, just like the Yankees and CowboysMaybe after another 5-7 seasons of 5-7 seasons we can reevaluate this, but as of now, its still number 1 IMO
11/30/2009 11:06:16 AM
I think that TV contract ends soon and ND ends up joining a conference.
11/30/2009 11:07:49 AM
It can't be the #1 job in the nation if no one wants to go there
11/30/2009 11:11:42 AM
^ No one wants to go there because no one wants to put in all the hard work it takes to win there, and you really can't blame themAt most big football schools, for the players, its football, girls and parties...at ND, its football, Mass and schoolwork...they have the winning expectations of Florida and Texas and the academic expectations of Stanford and Duke...and as we all know, most of the good players are dumbasses^^NBC may very well sell some games to Versus, especially given the fact that they play the likes of Western Michigan, Tulsa, and Utah at home next yearBut they feel the fact that they get the full ~13 million whenever they go to the BCS instead of splitting it with everyone else is reason alone to keep them IndependentI disagree, and I think ND in the Big 10 would a beneficial for both parties, but it remains a longshot[Edited on November 30, 2009 at 11:17 AM. FSU to make announcement on Bowden's future on Tuesday.(i.e. whether Bowden will be back for one last season or Jimbo Fisher takes over immediately)I expect most of the defensive staff will be gone either way, and Jimbo Fisher will likely have final say on hiring decisions.

Turner Gill coming up in discussions for the Kansas job. Mangino's firing is only a matter of time, as the lawyers try to work out a case/settlement for firing with cause. Also word on the street is that the only condition that Bowden would be allowed to return is if he was only the coach for ceremonial purposes. Sounds like he would step down, but I don't know how credible it is.http://www.tomahawknation.com/2009/11/29/1178055/the-decision-to-be-head-coach-next[Edited on November 30, 2009 at 3:38 PM. Chuck supposedly got into a fistfight with Jimbo, so I'd imagine he's out as well. And before any PackPride wannabes start suggesting it, no, Chuck is not going to be our new DC and it would be a horrible idea that would never work.

12/1/2009 10:51:31 AM
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/terrapins-insider/2009/12/friedgen_to_return_for_10th_se.htmlFriedgen will be retained by Maryland. His contract expires at the end of the 2011 season (Franklin is already designated as te coach in waiting). You have to wonder if the coach in waiting tag is keeping Friedgen his job, since they are essentially stuck with him or his assistant. Also of note:
12/1/2009 1:02:20 PM
I think it'd be pretty cool if Paterno announced his retirement too and the two grandfathers of modern college football went out with each other. Doesn't Paterno already have a replacement in line?
