I notice that when I drive along interstates (and sometimes major highways) that my V1 will deliver strong K-band hits. They initially sound like instant-on, but after a couple of seconds, they quickly taper off in intensity and stop.Any idea what this is? I only notice it on interstates (and sometimes major highways)...it doesn't sound like a regular false.

Are you talking about that new part of 70 between Smithfield and Clayton? my V1 does it there pretty bad.
11/25/2009 7:24:35 PM
that's one place i've noticed it, but certainly not the only one.
11/25/2009 7:33:43 PM
mine does the exact same thing on i-40 between chapel hill and raleigh. thats the only place I have ever seen it happen.the only thing i could think of is maybe the police have posted radar boxes at random intervals on certain stretches of the highway to try to reduce their effectiveness.
11/25/2009 8:31:17 PM
well there are radar boxes that detect speed to monitor traffic flow all over the place on interstates. its how they tell you how fast traffic is moving on the traffic report on the news.

Since when is there a new part of 70 between Smifffeild and Clayton?
11/25/2009 9:48:13 PM
new bypass

New bypass does not go to Smithfield, idiot.already told you once, you stupid motherfuckerhttp://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=569207&page=1#13031490[Edited on November 25, 2009 at 10:11 PM. Reason : pwnt]

I-40 is another place I've noticed it. I think 440/540 does it, too, but I can't remember for sure.
11/26/2009 10:49:22 AM
I seem to remember I got a lot of those, but only near overpasses...
11/26/2009 11:48:50 AM
I have never heard of departments posting any sort of "decoy box." Would seem like a terrible waste of money. Detectors only pick up transmitted signals from radar. Something has to be causing interference in those areas. It could be someone running radar. Someone sitting on an exit ramp, an officer behind you using same direction.

no, it happens way too much for any of that, and it doesn't sound like RADAR gun.and what's odd is that major highways don't typically have lots of falses, although this doesn't sound like a typical automatic-door/motion detector/etc false, either. whatever it is causes a pretty distinctive response from the detector.[Edited on November 26, 2009 at 12:29 PM. its not random interference either, it happens on i-40 at a fairly consistent interval. and as mentioned its easy to pick out so it doesnt really mess me up. its basically full on then tapers off immediately. more of a nuissance, enough so that I turn down the detector which is probably what they want.i figure they have to try something different, with my v1 a cop has a VERY slim chance of catching me speeding on the highway. it almost always picks them out way ahead (up to a mile alot of times). on side roads with blind corners and more use of instant on they obviously have a better chance.[Edited on November 26, 2009 at 1:29 PM. I miss my V1 but honestly I don't know if I can justify buying another one right now.[Edited on November 26, 2009 at 2:33 PM. Reason : I have seriously adjusted the way I drive, plus I rarely drive anything fast]

how about cars with adaptive cruise control? do they use radar?

my V1 saved my ass a few times todaycops tended to park in the areas that i was getting false alarms today

RADAR is around 30 GHz.CB is 27MHz...lots of difference
11/27/2009 1:45:33 AM
^Depends on the band.
11/27/2009 6:36:44 AM
haha, don't get me started on RF spectrum stuff. That's a [WORDS] post waiting to happen.

My X band seems to go apeshit on and off in cycles of 10 to 30 seconds. It's only in certain frequencies of 10.48x to 10.505GHz no matter where I am and once it starts it won't stop until I get pissed off and turn it down or unplug it. The K band I've lately been getting a few hits at one or two spots between Charlotte and Raleigh on 40/85 but I usually chalk it up to cops that are travelling nearby that I just haven't seen (overpasses or sideroads). Just about every Ka band hit I always see a cop nearby. Lucky me this X band cycle shit naturally starts after my protection plan expired. I'm starting to think it's aircraft flight lanes or small airports I'm crossing close to and the cycling hits are from the airport/aircraft radar sweep, if that makes sense. Or my passport is about to crap itself.
11/28/2009 5:55:46 PM
X-band on my V1 always goes off under the bridge along the airport exits, and I have always assumed its the airport radar...The K band signals that just burst out are due the the cameras... every time it goes off, you can almost always see the traffic camera mounted ahead thats causing it
11/28/2009 11:54:15 PM
by the way, I saw 2 Wake County Sherriffs the other day working an accident...at least one of them had his RADAR on, and it was X-band...so be wary of discounting/ignoring X-band hits. It's still in use.

I've had more time driving on 40 lately and yes I get about 2 to 3 K-band hits between Raleigh and Burlington. If anyone takes 64W out of Apex a lot lately there's been a NCHP guy sitting on the median not far out from the city limits in one of those hill dips.
