A week ago I prepared a spiced milk marinade for some venison to tenderize the meat. Fast forward a week later and I'm finally home ready to cook it. (work made life difficult this past week and I've not been able to get back to cook the meat till now). I normally don't leave any red meat over 2 or 3 days in the fridge before I cook it. However that meat already comes "aged". The venison I've had in the fridge was fresh, frozen, and then thawed out before I put it in the marinade. The smell is a bit off-putting, but some sites online said the meat needs to "rest" for about 30 mins and that the smell isn't necessarily a bad thing. Any thoughts on this? Would it be safe to throw in a slow cooker? I'd hate to throw it out, but I will if there's no chance its still edible.

If you cook it well enough Im sure you'll be fineI have some in the freezer now and can actually smell it a little (it may just be in my mind)[Edited on November 20, 2009 at 2:59 PM. I think it'll be ok...but don't listen to me. I'm a lot more handy with a rifle than I am in the kitchen.

I'm half inclined to see what happens, but I've just never cooked something that sat for 7 days!

but really, my roommate has left chicken in the fridge for like two weeks and then eaten it. He said it tasted normal.Im pretty sure as long as its not obviously moldy, rotting etc and you cook it well enough you'll be fine.Back in the day they would just cut off the rotting part and then eat the rest (atleast thats what my gramps told me)[Edited on November 20, 2009 at 3:49 PM. There was some special about a guy who would wait for it to start rotting and then eat it. He swears it cured him of some stomach disease or some shit. I think you can eat it like that it just tastes like shit.

^ Did they come over during the Khmer Rouge insanity?I would imagine the meat would be fine, especially if you're cooking it in a slow cooker.
