I've noticed 6/8 songs always seem to stick with you. Here's two of my favorites:Walk on the Ocean - Toad the Wet SprocketMy Name is Jonas - Weezer(for those who don't know, 6/8 time signature songs have a driving 1-2-3-4-5-6-1-2-3-4-5-6 feel to them)[Edited on November 18, 2009 at 10:36 PM. I find it easier to write music in 6/8, idk why. Most of the music [metal] i listen to is in 6/8 or 6/4 or 12/8 or some shit, because it comes from countries with a huge folk up bringing / culture.regardless my list for this thread is way too big to start naming shit.most notably: OpethI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.

Temple of the Dog - "Say Hello To Heaven"

6/8 songs were always my favorite songs to play, both in band in school and on the drums.
11/19/2009 11:11:27 AM
6/8 is indeed very fun to play

my name is jonas is pretty clearly in 3/8edit:sure it COULD be in 6/8. but the feel is one of 3/8 (or 3/4 i suppose -- but i think 3/8 because there's only one strong beat subdivided into three). the six beats you guys are hearing are just 16ths and there's none of the characteristics 2 strong beats that you often hear in 6/8 music (think house of the rising sun for instance).[Edited on November 19, 2009 at 9:54 PM. i tend to think of 3/4 more of as a waltz, but whatever
11/19/2009 10:33:30 PM
yeah that's why i said 3/8

REM's "Everybody Hurts" is either 6/8 or 12/8, I forget.
11/20/2009 7:15:07 PM
^yeah i could see an argument for either for that song.and to actually contribute something to this thread other than being a pain in the ass, here are some of my favorites:"The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out To Get Us!" ~ Sufjan Stevens"a hard rain's gonna fall" ~ bob dylan"five years" ~ david bowie"in ear park" ~ dept. of eagles"helena" ~ destroyer"bottom of the world" ~ emily haines (could be in 12/8 too potentially)"the saddest vacant lot in all the world" ~ grandaddy"inflammatory writ" ~ joanna newsom"star witness" ~ neko case (there are actually quite a few by her)"objects of my affection" ~ peter bjorn and johnand i'll just throw out my favorite wacky time signature song:"the landlord is dead" ~ do make say thinkit's either in 14/4, or some combination of 3/4s and 2/4s, but that pattern changes (the 14 does not).ok. i have to stop going through my music and go out. it's friday by the way.

YYZ by Rush has at least one segment in 6/8. And I enjoy the song. So that counts.
12/2/2009 10:26:35 PM
the opening riff of YYZ is 5/4
12/2/2009 10:53:14 PM
