A little early, but gotta plan.So a group of friends and I (about 9 of us) want to do a nicer, more adult new years...cocktail dresses, good drinks, good food, etc.Where is a good place in Raleigh that is usually fun for new years, but also has a more adult/glitzy atmosphere?

Go to Glenwood South. Two years ago a bunch of us went to Sullivan's where they gave out a complementary glass of champagne at midnight to everyone. It's a cigar bar (it's not really smokey at all, they have great ventilation) and you need to be decently dressed to attend. All their tv's were tuned into either the local or Times Square countdowns so we knew it was coming. It was pretty awesome. Everyone counted it down. One of the better New Years celebrations I've had since I moved to Raleigh.[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 1:06 PM. Reason : -]

Don't go to Solas. We rented a private room there last year for about 18-20 of us and their service is the worst. You had to have an argument with every bouncer just to get anywhere in that damn place. They also didn't have any sort of new years count down so everybody missed it. There was not even champaign.

Why don't you just throw a New Year's party yourself?? With the money you would pay to get into a nice place, and then for drinks and everything else after that...you could just get everyone to pitch in a little bit and have a kick-ass party at someone's house.

^^ That sucks about missing the countdown. Lame.Yeah, I wouldn't recommend Solas either. Outside of it being a tiered bar and having some cool things like a glass dancefloor, it'll be crowded as hell that night. You won't be able to get anything and have to deal with idiots in dragon shirts who have a ton of gel in their hair.[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 1:09 PM. Reason : -]

^^truth. This year a bunch of us are just going to go skiing for new years. The Raleigh downtown scene was really disappointing last year. It was one of my first new years in town since turning 21 ^the only nice part of solas is the rooftop and in winter its all covered up (mostly) anyway...and it is over crowded, takes forever to get drinks, and just isn't worth the time, money, or hype.[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 1:10 PM. We've done the party at home every year so far. We're all 25 years old + and really want to get out and do something more unique. Good idea about the skiing or going somewhere else...however, any more ideas? KEEP 'EM COMING!

I'm trying to decide between Prague, Glasgow, Florence, and Nice....good luck with the bar scene in Raleigh though.

Rented a cabin in TN for the weekend. It's going to be fun. The whole weekend will only cost slightly more than new year's at a nice bar then breakfast out the next day.

The mint was ridiculous last year. I got so blasted that I tipped the coat girl 20 bucks. She wasn't even cute.

The Mint sounds like it's going to be a winner. Did ya'll have to set up reservations ahead of time, or did they run like some New Years special closer to the event?
