I've had insomnia off and on for years. This is the first time it's been bad since I graduated, so I can't go to who I used to see at student health. Where would you recommend I go for medical help for insomnia? I really want somewhere cheap that will not hesitate to give me medication on the first visit. Thanks.

Sometimes medication isn't the answer.

If you want sleep meds, you can just buy sleep meds.

I don't know if this will help you, but I've been using melatonin. It's a naturally occurring hormone, so it doesn't have the addictive properties of other sleep medications. I got a bottle of 60 pills at GNC for $4 and one does the trick for me. It doesn't so much knock me out as it slows my mind down enough to where I can fall asleep.

Your general practitioner is who you should be seeing. Meds may or may not be the right answer, only your doctor can make that determination.

^^My fiancee uses melatonin. Seems to work.Interesting that you say it lets your mind slow down enough.... we sometimes discuss our thinking process: for her, it's nonstop, uncontrollable chatter... for me, I think I'm a lot better at just "not thinking"

I've read that artificial lighting(even flicking the bathroom light on for a minute) reduces your body's production of melatonin.

try not to use artificial lighting, get up in the morning, not having anything plugged in, in your bedroom, and keeping light out (create a cave). Cut down on computer/tv/artificial lighting a few hours before bed. Look into supplementing w/ melatonin and ZMA.

Melatonin doesn't work for me, I've tried that before. I know what my body is like, and I know what meds have fixed this exact problem I'm having time and time again. Dear God I just want to sleep!I also don't have a general practitioner. Can you recommend one that will help me with this issue?

Exercise often. I sleep so much better when I'm in a regular exercise routine.

I take temazepam, which is a generic for Restoril. It's cheap and works great. If it weren't for this stuff I'd never get a good night's rest. I'll pm you my Dr info.
