i just ordered 4 new tires. Advans S-Drive. hopefully this will reduce tire noise.figured I'd let you all know so that 69 has something new to bump 3 weeks from now.

bump
11/9/2009 3:11:59 PM
I'm still running my 2nd set of Azenis
11/9/2009 3:22:37 PM
Thinking about getting the Azenis RT-615. The problem is that I can't afford new wheels so I will be running a pitiful 225/45/17 tire . I'm wondering if I should just get the cheapo Sumitomo HTRZ III's instead.
11/9/2009 3:24:13 PM
sumitomo tires and they gotta be run flat
11/9/2009 8:40:20 PM
low pro vogues on swole with the carriage lamps
11/9/2009 8:57:56 PM
^^i see what you did there big timer
11/9/2009 9:02:35 PM
me is jealous
11/9/2009 9:40:12 PM
I really like my Yokohama S-drives. Much more civilized then Yokohama ADVAN.
11/10/2009 5:51:44 PM
^They are ADVANS just not the same ADVANS that come stock with an Evo.Getting them mounted and balanced today...$135 at just tires? does that sound right?
11/11/2009 11:00:51 AM
There is no ADVAN S-drive.There are ADVAN S.4 and ADVAN SportYokohama S-Drive is a separate product line. The Evo came with ADVAN A048 I believe. http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/s.drive.aspx[Edited on November 11, 2009 at 12:29 PM. Reason : ><]
11/11/2009 12:26:57 PM
evo didn't come with the A048s, they had the A046D. http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires_oe/advan_a046d.aspx Completely different animals.
11/11/2009 12:46:24 PM
Golovko, what happened to your tire that necessitated a new set?
11/11/2009 12:48:04 PM
steel belts exposed most likely
11/11/2009 2:20:53 PM
^^ yeah as quinn said, steel belts exposed haha. The tire wasn't flat but a large strip of rubber was hanging off and getting caught in the wheel well and the other 3 tires were not in any better shape.
11/11/2009 4:11:55 PM
Ah. Cassie made it sound like something sudden. But I should have figured that girl + something automotive = inaccurate statement
11/11/2009 4:43:38 PM
haha well it did happen suddenly driving back from the airport. in her defense
11/11/2009 5:43:08 PM
Man up, drive like a champion. If the inside steel of all four tires is not showing, you are doing it wrong.
11/12/2009 3:19:39 AM
if you aren't driving on the beads, you haven't gotten your money's worth yet
11/13/2009 11:29:27 AM
Do you guys keep your RT615's on through the winter? I'm going to have to throw my winter wheels on soon. I've had a few scary moments this past week with the heavy rain and all.
11/13/2009 2:35:07 PM
i run studded tires if its below 50 degrees, just in case
11/16/2009 7:37:00 AM
As I've said before, Azenis suck in every way except for two things, they're cheap, and once in their narrow operating temperature range, they have pretty good grip. They're also surprisingly good in the "damp" but hydroplaning resistance is greatly lacking. They're also very loud, have lousy steering feedback, etc. Oh as for winter, once below 65-70 degrees, their grip drops off substantially, so maybe they're a decent tire to monkey around with sideways, they wear great when they're spinning! Just minutes ago I've joined the ranks of those to dump the Azenis, the world is a better place! I recommend the Potenza RE 11 and the Pilot Sport PS II. They're both comparatively expensive, but worthy. Advans and Star Specs are alright also.
11/16/2009 9:39:52 AM
i don't dislike Azenis. I thought they were an excellent tire. But I don't need that kind of extreme performance on the road. I'd rather have a quieter ride. They were also fantastic on track! and I've never had problems with them in the rain/cold.
11/16/2009 10:29:05 AM
they all sound ricorzrific to me
11/17/2009 1:18:47 PM
^^^you forgot to mention they're also HEAVY tires.
11/17/2009 1:35:23 PM
I really don't think it's a good tire. It's acceptable to drive to the track with, and to drive on track on a cooler day, I'd really say that's about it... Everyone has different opinions though I won't be buying any more sets unless I go broke and just have to have grip!
11/17/2009 2:16:30 PM
just buy some hoosiers
11/18/2009 10:34:37 AM
bumperr i mean...naww dawg...Yokohama's all the way.
11/18/2009 10:38:37 AM
what size? I recently ordered some S drives as well
11/18/2009 12:55:37 PM
stock size...I Was running 255/40/17 on azenis but now i'm back to 235/45/17
11/18/2009 1:23:29 PM
nice, why'd you switch back?
11/18/2009 1:52:58 PM
Just wanted a quieter ride really...and the S-Drives are just as cheap as the Azenis but are reviewed to provide better wet traction.
11/18/2009 3:02:53 PM
for what it's worth i've been running the bridgestone potenza re050As (235/45 also) and i've really been impressed with them. Overall they were great tires for me, although it looks like 16k is all i'll get out of them.
11/18/2009 3:23:27 PM
^^ yah, wet traction on the Azenis could be much better
11/18/2009 8:08:53 PM
RE050A's are substantially better then azenis in everything but price.
11/18/2009 9:08:39 PM
yah, i was running Yokohama A022's which were a superior tire to anything i've driven on so far, but i just couldnt stand getting 5k out of the rears and 7-8k from the fronts.. $300-400 per corner didnt help their cause eitheri drive too damned much for that[Edited on November 18, 2009 at 9:27 PM. Reason : i put 14k mi in 3 months with the Yoko's, time for change]
11/18/2009 9:26:36 PM
If you're going to run an absurd(price wise) tire like RE050 then you might as well get ADVANs.
11/19/2009 12:41:57 PM
Are the 070's worth the money?
11/19/2009 1:12:45 PM
what is wrong with the RE011 ?
11/19/2009 1:21:36 PM
Nothing, but just going off TireRack ratings and reviews the RE070 would appear superior to the RE11
11/19/2009 1:53:47 PM
cause tire rack is the end all authority
11/20/2009 1:08:49 PM
like I said it was...but it's more than what Quinn said.
11/20/2009 1:19:06 PM
sure, blame it on the white guy
11/23/2009 7:22:19 AM
do us all a favor and just respond with pad...thats all you're doing anyway
11/25/2009 4:53:15 PM
Are those Nitto NT 01s any good? Pretty cheap...
