Looks like it's not coming to the states. Surprise >.>

It's going to cost the equivalent of $170,000. That's absurd. Might as well get a GT2. It better put up some fucking unreal numbers...

It's pretty thorough, and it oughta be amazing, but yeah, $170k is ludicrous. I saw 450 hp, ~3200 lbs somewhere, which is +30hp and -500 -420 lbs.

IMO, For that much over $100k, a bmw sports car needs either the sex appeal approaching an aston martin or audi r8 (ahem, like the z8 or the 850csi in its day or a 'proper' m1 successor), as well as this low a weight: power ratio.

[Edited on November 5, 2009 at 10:11 AM. Reason : overestimated the weight savings. thx autoblog ]

I doubt anybody will buy this because it makes financial sense. If you're just looking at dollar for performance, nobody would be selling cars other than Chevrolet with the Z06.

Oh and if they make it in a 4 door, and actually bring it to the U.S. I'd own one out of principle!

well of course nobody will buy it because it makes financial sense. the point is that i doubt this isn't going to put up gt2 numbers. if you want a stupid expensive dd/track car get one of those instead...

BMW's new equation:

+7% HP
-11% weight

=

+100% selling price!!!

M5 CSL

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/28/bmw-creates-an-m5-csl-and-no-you-cant-have-it/

Quote :
"To celebrate 25 years of the M5, BMW has created a one-off version of the E60 super saloon that Albert Biermann, head of BMW's M division calls, "the M5 CSL we never built."

The transformation began with a modified version of the standard M5's 5.0-liter V10, which has been stroked to 5.5-liters and fitted with a carbon fiber intake, secondary oil cooler and a new fascia. BMW remains mum on official power figures, but Biermann says the mods are good for around 580 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque over the standard 507 hp engine.

Mated to the modified mill is a fortified version of the seven-speed dual-clutch Getrag gearbox fitted to the current M3, while a carbon fiber roof joins a set of lightweight, carbon fiber seats up front. That, combined with the removal of the rear seats, sheds around 110 pounds from the M5's curb weight.

Although performance stats haven't been released, BMW says the M5 CSL laps the Nurburgring around 20 seconds faster than the standard model, so something around the 7:50 mark isn't out of the question. What is out of the question is the opportunity to buy the CSL. BMW has no plans to offer it to the public, and to that we say... fine. We'll wait for the twin-turbocharged V8 version coming in 2011."

touche, Ahmet. (z06 comment).

I really wasnt thinking of it from the perspective of disadvantageous spec when compared to other other $170k cars. I was mostly thinking about how much fun I have punting my wife's 1999 miata around town and how nobody wants to give me $7k for it, and so I haven't sold it yet.

you still need back area to store dead bodies you will knock over

but anyway, 110 pounds? that's all they could shed on a 'CSL'? that's weak.

i agree that its a good looking coupe and quick to boot. but it doesn't look like a sports car to me anymore. the corvette has more sex appeal.

Next BMW M5 will have an 8-cyl turbo engine, developing 30% more torque, and around the same power as the current V10. Video of it doing laps on the Nurburgring:

Thing is though that 170k$ is Euro pricing.

Cars in europe are inherently expensive.

I'd expect that if it were brought to the US, it would be something on the order of 70k$.

^^^ so you are saying that in Europe cars cost 2.5 times as much as they do in the US?

More like 1.5 to 1.75 times, no more.

So that will make this right around $100K - $120K in the US.

^ yes you dumb fuck, most germans buy theirs cars out of the country since taxes are so damn high, countries with great public transportation can get away with these things when cars are a luxury, not a necessity

The base price is higher without even doing tax specifics.

42.6k Euros for 335i base, no specific options.

Keeping the convention of slightly lower base and removing VAT (included in the price tag), the amount comes out to roughly $90k.

Its a moot point. That car wont come to the United States.
