people hating on aerosmith in this thread can't possibly have listened to any of their music from the 70's and early 80's...and no, having heard dream on and sweet emotion doesn't count.
11/10/2009 12:09:25 AM
pffffff LAFF. I'm quite aware of all of Aerosmith's catalog.Saying they ought to retire has nothing to do with what they did 30 years ago.
11/10/2009 12:16:11 AM
i hope any obscure band that only 19-24 year old's like breaks up just to piss you people off. you fags are like the barack obama's of music - the minute a band becomes popular, they become gay and deserve to be broken up. It isn't always gay to like different shit. Just because i don't listen to 88.1 on the reg doesn't mean that bands i like suck. SOMEONE SOMEWHERE thinks they are good, otherwise they wouldn't make money. Stop being so elitist you pretentious fucks
11/10/2009 12:16:51 AM
I posted 2 bands that are awfulI like MANY mainstream bandsI'm gonna go ahead and assume that fit isn't at my expense.but, for the record, this shit makes absolutely no sense, on any planet:
11/10/2009 12:20:36 AM
i think U2 is gay too, but it just seems that too many popular bands get dismissed on this site because people want to appear too cool to like mainstream music. I like a ton of mainstream crap - mostly country and rap, but I also like Texas country and other obscure shit. Doesn't mean I think that people who like the disco biscuits (who the fuck are they) are fags. Again, stop being so elitist.as far as the barack obama deal: anytime a band gets popular or successful, it must be punished or broken up - Socialismguess that was a swing and a miss for those who are less political[Edited on November 10, 2009 at 12:25 AM. doesnt seem that complicatedbut, the thing i don't understand is how any band makes money anymore.i mean who the fuck buys a CD anymore except retarded brokeasses who have no internet. Concerts can't be that profitable with all the travel. Do people still pay 15.99 for CD's? Does anyone on this site? If you do, I will get your your CD and mail it to you for 14.99.
11/10/2009 12:41:31 AM
are you trolling or what now?do you not understand how the touring model works?
11/10/2009 12:42:40 AM
^^definitely wasn't complicated--it was nonsense and overall made-up drivel.and yes, it is tougher for bands to make a living. you pretty much need to be signed by a relatively large label who will pay for most endeavors.^no, not trolling, and huh?we actually had an awesome blues band play this past Saturday.[Edited on November 10, 2009 at 12:47 AM. i do not apparently, but i wonder how bands i like make money in this day and age. I like a lot of bands at lincoln theatre, but i cannot imagine that without support on day to day album sales, they make shiti mean assuming 15 a ticket and 500 people, that's 7500. on a weekendband gets 50 percent maybe, split 4+ ways. Maybe band gets some booze sales percent? That's 500-900 a night per band member. This does not include travel, which is brutal. Not much of an income considering the travel.Yes, agreed that some tix are higher or lower, but overall, I would think that a band players life could be equated to that of a pro gambler. i am talking to beergolftardlets face it, most local bands arent in it to make money.the bands that go out on large tours are usually supported by a record label or paid a large enough guarantee to where they make money whether 100 people show up or 1,000.also, smaller bands do not have the travel costs. if they play the lincoln one night, they will prob be at the norva the next or amos southend. not that expensive to take one bus or van with a trailer full of equipment in tow.[Edited on November 10, 2009 at 12:48 AM. well, fuck me then, but i still don't understand how the labels that are paying these bands make money as their revenues decline substantially from illegal music downloads, etcconcerts can't be all that profitable for all but a handful of artistsexamplehttp://www.recklesskelly.comone of my favorite tx country bands. tour in NC to OR - 12 bucks a ticket. Sure, I'll buy their concert tix when I can, but I am not going to pay for what is free...these guys are certainly not local[Edited on November 10, 2009 at 12:51 AM. Reason : n]

most bands headlining Lincoln are on a label which pays for tours. at least on weekend, bigger gigs.then again, it's actually pretty hard for a venue to make a ton of money. most bands with any acclaim at all have a set demand, and if the venue wants to have em, they pay it. I do know that Opeth played there 3 years ago for $10,000 or so. a good bit of that probably went to their label, too.i mean, the whole band thing is kinda misleading. MILLIONS of people start bands, and stay in them for waaaaayyyy too long, chasing that dream, only to find out that you really can't make a great living off it unless you're pretty damned big--at least national.I know a shitload of musicians, and most of them--even the "successful" ones-- can barely make bills. None own a house, and most of them drive a hoopty. for a lot of people, it's not about making a ton of money. It's about not having a 9-5, and creating something that maybe even a few people give a shit about. Neurotic? sure. [Edited on November 10, 2009 at 12:55 AM. Reason : fdass]

well, it does pick my interest as to how much talent will be stifled as a result of free downloadingi won't pay for something i can get easily for freeand i have paid for certain albums i couldn't find for free. they should work harder to protect it - i mean, find a new revenue model^ good point, the insanity is probably the reason they are decent musicians. Normal people wouldn't want to live that way. I am saying that it is getting even harder when you are trying to sell albums, where I would say "no thanks, I'll just get it for free" and if i like it i might come to a concert if it's convenient. I was in a band for almost 2 yearsI'm glad I found out quick that it was 10x more headache than any benefit I'd ever see from it.
11/10/2009 1:08:01 AM
good point, being in band is like being a pro golfer, football player, or any other major endeavor. 1 percent makes 99 percent of the money. Except we don't have to pay per view for the masters or us open. although, with dvr, commercials are becoming obsolete too.
