Saw this article the other day and thought it was pretty neat. Seems like it is a lot easier to do than before. Any thoughts on this? I am not the most tech savvy guy but this seems like it could be a pretty neat toy for only a few hundred dollars.http://gizmodo.com/5389166/how-to-hackintosh-a-dell-mini-10v-into-the-ultimate-snow-leopard-netbook

Apple is about to nerf those Atom netbooks, according to the 10.6.2 rumorsbetter go ahead and do it while you can
11/2/2009 8:18:44 PM
I dont see what the big deal is, like you couldn't go back to a vanilla Snow Leopard disc. Or if you were worried about security stick with the 10.5 tree?
11/2/2009 8:32:32 PM
10.5.9 is supposedly going to kill atom as well.also, they do more than security updates in the update packages.
11/2/2009 8:34:19 PM
So basically if you wanted to do this you would have to stick with this version of the OS and no updates?
11/2/2009 8:44:11 PM
not necessarilymore like... stick with 10.6.1 until someone comes out with a kernel patch that lets you keep atom support in 10.6.2or upgrade to 10.6.2 and try to keep your previous kernel (if you know how).

Or stop being a cheap ass and buy a real mac like a good little sheep.
11/2/2009 9:51:05 PM
^^ gotcha thanks^ meh, I would buy a regular window netbook before a mac, my only reason for doing it would be for a toy since it is so cheap this way

having bought my gf a eee pc 10", 13" is plenty smallbetween my 17" furnace and her 10" eyesore i would kill for one nice mac 13" lol

i love mine!!13.3" mac book pro. perfect size full keyboard better resolution then most 15-16" pc laptops out now... and this thing is smaller than any of my textbooks
11/3/2009 9:26:06 AM
my past 2 laptops have been 14.1"my next one will be 12" or 13.3", but that's as small as i want to go (at least in the foreseeable future)...14.1" is fine, but i think 13.3" sounds perfect...most 12" seem a bit thick to me

I built one out of a Dell Mini 9 for my girlfriend. She uses it as her everyday laptop and loves it. It took some getting used to (mainly the smaller keyboard) and I would suggest visiting Best Buy to check out the Mini 10 before you order one. Depending on your personal preference, typing on those things can be difficult. I find it extremely hard for me to go back and forth between my 13.3" Macbook and the 9" Dell Mini. Also, getting some of the features to work can be a pain. There are several walk-throughs to install/troubleshoot problems but, for example, sometimes her trackpad will stop working altogether. The only fix I've found is to do a hard reboot of the netbook. Things like that don't happen with Apple products, but they will creep up in hacked computers/laptops. As long as you are not technically inept, you should be able to google most of the issues you run into.

Apparently there are zero issues with the Mini 10s and Snow Leopard, in terms of hardware functionality. That's what I've heard secondhand, at least.

Anyone seen any good success stories of OS-X on a netbook with an n450 cpu? As in, everything works, and the average intelligent person without a CSC degree could make it happen without pulling his hair out?or should I just say screw it and buy an n270/n280 netbook?
5/30/2010 5:31:00 PM
Im posting with a Dell Mini 10V running 10.6.2. Easy hack. Just follow the Gizmodo guide.
5/30/2010 11:13:32 PM
Yeah, but is it the n450 version, or the n270/n280 version?
