What are some local eating challenges around Raleigh? Obviously there is the hot dog thing at the Roast Grill (didn't know about it until man vs food)...

What else is out there?

There's one at bandito's in chapel hill... el gigante burrito. (i don't know if i spelled any of that right) I got the T-shirt and my picture on the wall, but so did a lot of others. (including some 90 pound blond chick.)

"Smath74: however, some folks do need to watch their sugar, myself included. not because of diabeetus or anything, but as part of a program I'm on to watch my weight. I'm aware that pomegranates are "good for you" but they do have a lot of sugar. Granted, it's natural sugar and not the refined stuff, but it is something i always look at. some fruits, such as bananas, have way too much sugar for me.

I'd love to use pomegranates as a topping for ice cream... I just can't."

Program to watch your weight... skyrocket?

The havoc you wreak on your system with eating competitions even if you do them twice a year, is more than any reasonable amount of pomegranates (1 a day) you could eat all year long.

Bangkok 54 in Chapel Hill has the Bangkok Dangerous Challenge. It's a normal sized plate of food (I think pork, chicken, beef and veggies with rice) that is very spicy. They put your photo on the wall whether you complete it or not. If you complete it you get free dessert. I ordered it the first time not realizing it was a legit challenge because I love spicy food. It was delicious. Then I went back and ordered it again and thought I had done some legitimate damage to my internal organs and spent the night puking fire.
