why?i kinda get the whole leaving a football game thing, but everyday at work? it's not like the whistle blows at 5pm and there's a mad rush out of here...
10/20/2009 9:04:07 AM
lol....why even care?
10/20/2009 9:06:15 AM
I do it so that my passenger side is next to the passenger side of the car beside me. This allows me to leave room for my driver side and the room for the driver side of the other car beside me. I figure most people are 1/car, thus don't really use the passenger side, so I can park closer to that side, leaving room for 2 people to get into/out of their vehicles. This wouldn't be a problem if people didn't make every parking spot the size of a damn golf cart [Edited on October 20, 2009 at 9:10 AM. Reason : .]
10/20/2009 9:09:28 AM
^^ oh i don't care...doesn't bother me or anything, just curious what kind of parking joy i'm missing out on
10/20/2009 9:11:15 AM
10/20/2009 9:11:23 AM
really? there i was thinking that parking spaces were designed ergonomically I've never had trouble with the space involved for me getting in and out of my car. I am a small dude though.^^must make em feel like a buff cat...i too, don't see the point[Edited on October 20, 2009 at 9:15 AM. Reason : d]

It's fun to back that thang up.
10/20/2009 9:14:18 AM
It's fun to back that thang up.Srsly.
10/20/2009 9:16:25 AM
it's called "commando style" and you do the night before it's supposed to snow
Ask JCASHFAN he does it all the time, not sure why either.
10/20/2009 9:19:45 AM
i didnt realize people actually put much thought into why people might do this
10/20/2009 9:21:11 AM
because when you do leave at ~5:30pm or so, others will be leaving too. This makes it easier to see and avoid having an idiot hit me.
10/20/2009 9:21:22 AM
I often back into spots but I almost always do it if I am in a large, busy parking lot like or a parking deck. I do it because its easy, doesn't take but an extra 15 seconds and when you leave you can see more of whats going on whats going on behind you (i guess if you pull in then its in front of you but hopefully you know what i meant).
10/20/2009 9:25:12 AM
10/20/2009 9:26:53 AM
good point^^...see better when you pull out..I still dont have a problem backing out, because you do it slowly enough and people for the most part will stop to let you out.....I'm just not ever in a big rush though. Not my style[Edited on October 20, 2009 at 9:31 AM. Reason : d]
10/20/2009 9:30:01 AM
when I had the F150 I always backed in, its a lot easier to back a large truck into a tight space than to pull in normal.
10/20/2009 9:31:09 AM
lol@ neurotic southerners parking, fearful that somebody will ding their doorspeople up here pretty much toss their shit wherever. when you get used to parking in a city, you give up on minor cosmetic damages
10/20/2009 9:31:36 AM
i just always find a spot to do the "pull through"so i guess it looks like i back in...even though i don'tmy dad says "never back up if you don't have to"....so it's a win/win for me either way
10/20/2009 9:47:01 AM
it's easier to me if you back out since you have more clearance than you do trying to get into a 10' wide spot b/w 2 cars.
10/20/2009 9:49:53 AM
at some chemical plants i've worked in it's been required to back infor if you gotta get the fuck out in a hurryhowever, i back in at my house at home, but not at my normal jobi have a cockamamie (sp!) idea that since my parking lot is on a hill, and im pretty sure my intake valve is in the front of my car, if i park with the nose lower than the rear it uses less gas to start upenough less that it's noticable in time between fillups and mileage per tankit's all bullshit i know, but i do it anyways
10/20/2009 10:16:45 AM
more fuel efficient, you are doing more manuvering with your engine relatively warm rather than when it is cold. you idle longer.of course the savings is probably a gallon over the course of a year...
10/20/2009 10:18:00 AM
10/20/2009 10:22:27 AM
yeah it sorta does
10/20/2009 10:23:13 AM
black people do this often
10/20/2009 10:23:15 AM
^^no it really doesnt. it has to do with neurotic people who own expensive cars not wanting their doors dinged. i'm sure plenty of them live in california too
10/20/2009 10:24:18 AM
29k is not expensive for a car.there's a guy in my building who drives a maserati and street parksand gets dinged up like every other carcalifornia isn't what we're talking about heremcdanger is talking about the northeast
10/20/2009 10:36:21 AM
I don't do it, but on big vehicles it can be easier to get it in one attempt rather than having to pull in, back up, and pull in again. Being in reverse is like having rear wheel steering. And sometimes you just don't see the park until you're almost past it. In that case you're probably not lined up to turn into it and it's easier just to turn the opposite direction, throw it in reverse, and back in.
10/20/2009 10:36:37 AM
haha yeah. an accord does not an expensive car make. but back on topic, I always find myself backing into a spot at work since I can't find one to drive through. I can back my truck a hell of a lot better than I can drive straight into a spot.
10/20/2009 10:37:50 AM
^^^ & ^haha tell that to my car payment 29k is expensive enough for me. and it makes me park farther away. and unless you live/work/play in New York City, i don't see why "not wanting your doors dinged" is a bad thing.you people just wanna find something to talk shit about.]
10/20/2009 10:38:40 AM
it's not my doors that get dinged when i have to parrallel park every where i goit's people who use the cars in front and behind them's bumpers as guidance when to stop when parking that get me
10/20/2009 10:39:55 AM
10/20/2009 10:40:30 AM
i park farther away so my doors don't get dinged. this means i'm walking farther to get to my destination. i'm a fatty. it's a GOOD THING that i'm walking farther to get to my destination. quit hating!
10/20/2009 10:40:57 AM
I always back into my parking space at my apartment. I do this for two reasons:1 - The parking area is very crowded and assholes sometimes park where there is no space making it difficult to get out of my space. Backing in just makes getting out easier. 2 - My parking space is next to a big garbage dumpster. One night when getting home late, I saw there was a raccoon hanging around the open dumpster door. Rather than pull in and get raccoon rabies raped as I stepped out next to the dumpster, I backed in so i could get out farther away. To this day I continue to do this. I also never tell Reason #2 to anyone riding shotgun with me
10/20/2009 11:09:22 AM
10/20/2009 11:13:20 AM
I drive a truck. Backing into narrow parking spaces in narrow parking lots is a must.
10/20/2009 11:13:34 AM
10/20/2009 11:21:31 AM
I back in to parking spaces so that I can leave easier. Its easier to leave a dimly lit parking deck where people are flying down the lanes with no lights when you can see. Its also easier to leave a parking lot directly beside a busy road when you can just pull out. And,

There are various reasons for backing a vehicle into a space.

what a petty thing to hate
10/20/2009 12:56:26 PM
I always pull thru, no matter the orientation of the adjacent laneand if you pull out into wrong way traffic, you have to always act like its the other guys fault, and their the asshole
10/20/2009 12:57:51 PM
^^ people should be able to park sensiblypulling through is not always the best thing to do
10/20/2009 1:00:52 PM
since getting a car with a camera in the back, i like to back within like 1.5 inches of whatever is behind me
10/20/2009 1:01:12 PM
