if I wanted to drive around and show people some really rich areas where all could I go? Trying and stay inside the beltline or fairly close outside. And if you're confused what meaning of rich I'm using, let's say people who have beach houses and pets named Fifi
10/16/2009 1:21:59 PM
Rich people don't want you holding a quixtar dream session in their neighborhoods.
10/16/2009 1:26:57 PM
why dont you buy a little market research
10/16/2009 1:28:45 PM
you want me to buy market research to look at some houses?this is not business related, its neighborhood hunting related
10/16/2009 1:30:32 PM
White Oak
10/16/2009 1:30:53 PM
Hayes-Barton would be an excellent choice. It lies (roughly) in between Glenwood and St. Mary's street, just north of Wade Avenue. There is also the Carolina Country Club area, north of Glenwood and west of Lassiter Mill. There are also really nice houses in Oakwood, which occurs west of Person street, near the Governor's mansion, and even in Cameron Park between Cameron Village and Hillsborough. But those might not be "rich" by your definition. Oakwood might though, and it's full of victorians.
10/16/2009 1:32:25 PM
oh my bad...i went back and reread your first postsee what i did there
10/16/2009 1:34:08 PM
Brier Creek?
10/16/2009 1:34:35 PM
I'd imagine most of these places would have gates to keep out the riff raff such as yourself
10/16/2009 1:35:17 PM
never mind...bad link[Edited on October 16, 2009 at 1:39 PM. Reason : just search for home sales on google]
10/16/2009 1:38:12 PM
McMansions or old money? Hayes Barton/ 5 points area for old money styles, various neighborhoods north of 540 on six forks and falls of neuse for mcmansions. nothing special about brier creek, mixed use with a few cookie cutter mcmansions
10/16/2009 1:43:49 PM
From Five Points, drive down fairview and turn left onto St. Mary's St. Drive around (or better, walk) that neighborhood... Will blow your mind. It is better to walk, because then you will have time to actually see the immense and immaculately landscaped yards/compounds that some of those houses sit on.... Keep in mind that this is inside the beltline in the most desired area of the city. Those lots are worth $TEXAS.
10/16/2009 1:44:05 PM
thanks guys ill check some places out this weekend
10/16/2009 1:45:38 PM
^^That's Hayes-Barton. Probably the epitome of old-money Raleigh.
10/16/2009 1:48:33 PM
The Hayes-Barton area has some crazy stuff. I used to rent a house over on Fairview when I was a student. I'd go for a walk/run/bike in the area. They have some of the most well maintained property in Raleigh. The lots that the homes sit on alone are worth bank.
10/16/2009 2:06:52 PM
Old Raleigh off of edwards mill/duraleighnorth ridge off falls of neusefalls lake area down creedmoore (way out though)wakefield (way out)or try the C.entral A.rea for R.ich Y.ankeesmcgregor regencyprestonmmm

Kaplan Dr.
10/16/2009 2:14:47 PM
The areas around Carolina Country Club off Glenwood have probably the largest and most expensive homes in Raleigh. Go to FMrealty.com, put "inside the beltline" for the area, and put $1,000,000 for the minimum price. Most of the homes on the first page are in that area.
10/16/2009 2:44:29 PM
Five Points for sure. But go out to the Swans Mill Crossing and Lockhart Lane area and you'll see some mini-mansions on large well-manicured lots--I think most are in the $750K to $1.5 million range.
10/16/2009 3:03:29 PM
try some realtor sites. you can usually search by price.
10/16/2009 3:53:47 PM
The Drewry Hills area off of 6 forks has some really nice houses. Particularly the 300 block of Marlowe, and the 400 block of Drummond Rd.
10/16/2009 4:14:12 PM
Just make sure you and/or your friends aren't minorities, or the rich old people will call the cops about colored folk casing houses.

go over by CCC there are a few giant houses over there but mostly all of those north hills/CCC/etc/ITB places are "rich" because of the location/property value.and yea cameron park (woodburn) in between hillsb and cameron village also has pricey houses - though they probably don't look like it cause they're not like, mcmansions.
10/16/2009 6:22:10 PM
there are some nice places off of oberlin
10/16/2009 7:37:50 PM
Those areas are nice and all, but why do you want to look at really rich houses? That's still unclear.
10/16/2009 7:45:49 PM
^^some of them don't look very impressive, but the price is--e.g. there's a 700 sq ft house up the street for $275,000[Edited on October 16, 2009 at 7:47 PM. Reason : ^]
10/16/2009 7:47:09 PM
I'm not sure if op was looking for houses where rich people lived or rich houses. The houses in most of these areas named inside the beltline have high value because of the land, not the house. Many of these houses are nice, but not really impressive at all. If the original owners live in them, they may not be rich at all but they sell for a lot in recent years. Also, just because a house is new doesn't mean its "new money" do you know what new money and old money even mean?Homes in wakefield like where the hurricanes owner lives blow any house inside the beltline away.
10/16/2009 7:59:37 PM
i wonder what the true intentions are of the OP - didn't he just lose his job recently
10/16/2009 8:09:19 PM
wakefield plantation and some of the neighboring areas around falls lake. The MOST expensive homes are tucked in 30 acre, gated fences, inside the beltway, but those are not really neighborhoods... they are amazing though.
10/16/2009 8:40:20 PM
suspicious activity ITT
10/16/2009 8:51:34 PM
lol well im certainly not moving into any these houses but it doesnt mean i dont have family or friends who might want to move to raleigh, which i still havent learned much about since my last job did have me out of state the whole timeyou people are cynical, lol
10/17/2009 7:01:33 AM
Isn't the most expensive house in Raleigh on Oberlin? I'm sure you all know which one I'm talking about. Has the huge ass yard, stone wall around it, etc. I kind of remember them saying it sold for over $2 million about 10 years.
10/17/2009 7:11:25 AM
There are only two houses you need to show them. The one in this thread: message_topic.aspx?topic=572605and 7021 Ebenezer Church Rd.
10/17/2009 8:19:14 AM
^^tatton hallnot sure how much it's worth, but there are plenty of other $2+ million houses in the area
10/17/2009 12:21:27 PM
The Parade of Homes is going down this weekend. They're not the biggest or the best (and they're definitely going to be more modest this year), but you get to walk around in them and check out the latest in design.Maybe your friends would be into it.I dunno.
10/17/2009 1:37:20 PM
10/17/2009 1:47:22 PM
'old money' does not mean old housesit means the passing of wealth from generation to generation. 'old money' is really a definition of a people, not a place or location
10/17/2009 2:25:03 PM
and if you think "old money" would move to a place like wakefield, you're a double dumbass
10/17/2009 2:56:28 PM
kiefer, i dont even know where smithfield is, unrelated comment
10/17/2009 3:26:14 PM
^^Old money does not tend to move into new neighborhoods like Wakefield very often, exactly.
10/17/2009 4:20:21 PM
I remember there being some monster places on Duraleigh Rd. on the right, north of Ebenezer Church Rd.
10/17/2009 4:30:15 PM
