Does anyone know why the blue-shirted persons are stationed outside the (Colleseum) deck? They seem to be checking for permits, but why?My theory is that budget cuts have reduced the number of actual permit checkers and they're trying to catch cross parking at the entrances. Anyone know?

Probably to enforce the rules

But why spend my tax dollars to employ someone to stand at the entrance to check permits, when they supposedly have people that make the rounds and check them anyway?

Because waiting to ticket these assholes after they park doesn't help with overcrowding in the deck.[Edited on October 13, 2009 at 10:18 AM. Reason : .]

^^I seriously doubt they're hiring more people just to stand at the entrance of the deck.

^ Maybe not new hires, but I doubt they're volunteers.^^ It would seem that proper enforcement (via tickets) would be enough to reduce cross-parking.

^No...I meant that their current employees who usually write the tickets are instead being stationed at the deck's entrance. Therefore, no new employees and no volunteers. Which means no extra money going into it.The only drawback I can see is that they're writing less tickets because they're preventing those people from parking. Which means they are getting less revenue. I'm sure its working as a better deterrent than the small number of employees they currently have just walking/driving around writing tickets. You can only cover so much space.

In certain parking areas (coliseum may not be one anymore...) it usually works out cheaper to take your chances with getting a parking ticket, than to actually buy a parking pass.[Edited on October 13, 2009 at 12:03 PM. Reason : ]

^they've started cracking down more on the coliseum deck.best spot to take your chances is the paylot in front of harris, imo.i just suck it up and pay for the dan allen deck paylot since i'm only on campus 2 days a week to start with cheaper than a permit

NCSU doesn't get to keep the ticket revenue, it goes to WCPS. However, freeloaders illegally parking (and overcrowding the deck) hurts everyone.
10/15/2009 7:10:25 AM
^yeh... well I think transportation gets like 10% of ticket revenue. so by not writing as many tickets, they really aren't hurting their bottom line. they'll just keep jacking up parking pass prices each year.
10/15/2009 8:09:20 AM
yeah, they still get to keep some of the ticket revenue for "overhead"
10/15/2009 1:53:36 PM
they usually only check em at 930-1130 since thats the most crowded time on campus.

^^ They've been out there the last few days between 1-3:00. I've seen them multiple times driving around and looking. Yesterday saw them driving around the top-top level of Coliseum deck.I wouldn't park in this deck if I didn't have a permit. People probably used to be able to get away with it, but deck space is really limited this year due to how the parking situation was implemented. They sold more spots and instituted new cross-campus parking regulations.[Edited on October 16, 2009 at 2:13 PM. Reason : -]
