we need to produce a local show, kind of in the spirit of Top Gear, but on a shoestring budget, with lots of stupid stunts and gags. Like on public access or something...I vote we call it POS. Shoot me some ideas. BBR, optmus, etc...you will all have active parts in the writing and production of said show. Seriously, Garage folks, this needs to HAPPEN
10/10/2009 9:23:51 PM
you should just watch "davidsfarm" on youtube
10/10/2009 9:26:11 PM
no, no, no...we will have organization...reviews of readily available hunks of shit, track times, butchery of automobiles, interviews with celebrities.Where's your sense of adventure?!!
10/10/2009 9:53:02 PM

10/12/2009 8:04:53 AM
well, I don't blame you on that one. I'm just trying to figure out in my head if this is really worth my time. I'd love to do something like this, but only if it opens up more possibilities or even the chance at doing something that might come close to a paying gig.

^ Often a man with great vision needs to work with a man of practicality and precise execution in order to achieve goals. Each complements the other.
10/12/2009 8:03:57 PM
I'll put my POS on the show .
10/12/2009 8:05:19 PM

10/12/2009 10:05:05 PM

10/13/2009 12:48:03 AM
I'm down, once the town car is twin-turbo'd I'll be taking all challengers...in a straight line race lol. Now I'm curious, shredder, what year town car do you have? I only know of one other 1980's box on campus.[Edited on October 13, 2009 at 1:09 AM. Reason : :=]

THIS, gentlemen, is what I'm talking about.First order of the day, once I've talked to my camera/video/production friend (and assuming I can get him onboard; I don't think it will be too hard)...is to establish a venue for the first (and possibly subsequent) show. What do y'all know about Maxton? Available for third parties? Who has rights to it? I know ECTA runs there, and there are a lot of autox events there. What about Rocky Mt? Know of others?Next on the list...I'm wondering what TV route to go. Any ideas?
10/13/2009 1:11:18 AM
i was talkin about the fwd 350hp
10/13/2009 1:13:26 AM
You disrupted my idea, sir.
10/13/2009 1:38:43 AM
I call dibs on doing supercar reviews.and by supercar reviews I mean reviewing cars by driving them on Gran Tourismo.oh and you might be better off just starting a youtube channel. let it grow viral, then you'll have something to shop to tv networks.[Edited on October 13, 2009 at 9:33 AM. That was just suggested by a couple of my friends. This is something to think about. Hard thinkin'...

I've been doing a lot of nissan z32 work lately and have been watching the youtube channel of this Z32 shop in clayton. He just posts a video a day of some little thing(in one case riding to the mail box on his lawnmower), but apparently it drums up business. He doesn't strike me as entirely sane, but he's got like 15 cars sitting in the yard and people shipping their shit to him from the west coast for work. There's a MG guy that's been doing the same thing for years. My point: people will watch anything on youtube.
10/13/2009 9:58:46 PM
Who is the guy in Clayton?

i'm down...and can provide any help needed.
10/14/2009 2:50:19 PM
Oh, i'm totally in for this. I'm sure there are plenty others who are better than me on here, but I can provide some graphic design skillz. Also, I volunteer my jeep and any other toys I have sitting around. A 7 foot long potato cannon perhaps. Or a 2 foot tall kids bike with a chainsaw engine welded to it (20mph top speed).

I'd like to contribute. I write a little scratch for ridelust.com every now and then when I have time. I'm in Charlotte and live by a local airpark. I've ridden down the runway a few times at night...Random thought, does anybody know anything about a closed coarse in Savannah near the bridge. I was visiting my little brother a while ago and we found this place. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=savannah,+ga&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=52.550571,78.662109&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Savannah,+Chatham,+Georgia&ll=32.086374,-81.075819&spn=0.013871,0.019205&t=h&z=16Oops did some google searching. Found a PDF of an old NY Times article from 1908: http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=1&res=940DEFDC1731E233A25751C2A9679D946997D6CFVery cool. This would be my vote for the location of our Top Gear track (with modification).[Edited on October 14, 2009 at 3:35 PM. Reason : found it.]

Yep, I've seen that. I've actually driven around it, though, mind you, it was at night with my ex-wife while we were exploring Savannah. I wonder if they recreated the Grand Prize of America races on it or something. It has gators in the turns and everything. Or at least it did about 7 or 8 years ago. Interestingly enough, SCCA has Roebling Road, which is like less than 10 or 15 miles from there.

Does anyone know of a stalled housing development due to the recession? They started one across the street from my parents a couple years ago, paved the streets and everything, then couldn't sell any lots for homes. So naturally, myself and a few of the neighbors decided to re purpose it as our own personal test track. It was great when I was building the dune buggy to be able to do short test runs without getting on the highway, and the mustang guys next door had their own personal 1/8 mile strip. I learned to ride my street bike there as well.An older couple bought the lot at the end of the road recently, so I've laid off out of respect but I think the mustang guys kept on and ended up having a conversation with the cops. Still, having all that virgin asphalt was great while it lasted.

The bad thing about subdivision streets is that, after the subdivision has been recorded and the streets are built, they are usually deeded over to the state and become public roadways under state and county jurisdiction. Therefore, they fall under state road and traffic laws.
