I got a 86 4x4 pickup thats got a bad motor, its a 22r carb'ed, I got a rusted out 85 4runner efi 22re. Any one ever swapped these motors like this? Already started to sas the ifs truck, but don't much about swappin these motors. Any help is appreciated, let the flamming begin

I have no advice, but if you put the 22re in the bed of the pickup, I'd be willing to buy them from you.

well there's all the EFI stuff you have to put in, like a different fuel pump, main fuel injection wiring harness, etc

do you have the PBB FAQ file? I can email it to you

those motors are swapped all the time. just swap everything from the EFI truck onto the carbed truck. gas tank and all. and go read Pirate.

its a very simple swap, the wiring harnesses are plug and play between the two trucks[Edited on October 4, 2009 at 9:32 PM. Reason : you can always just use the good long block and old intake carb and dizzy]

I was just thinking that i would gut the ifs truck(wiring harness, tank, etc) and just put everything from the efi truck in. I've never done anything on this scale b4, also gonna do the timing chain and guides as well as gaskets while its out.

i've swapped a celica 22re into a 22r 4 runner. the wiring was a bit of a headache and i never really finished it "neatly", but nothing terrible. iirc, there were only like 5-10 wires that actually needed to be integrated into the truck's harness once i thinned out the celica's harness. i had some fueling issues that i never got around to fixing, but i'm pretty sure it had something to do with keeping the stock tank and/or using an e2000 inline pump to pull from it. doing a truck to truck swap should be even easier...

Ivan, I'd bet that fuel pump was the issue. The E2000 pump doesn't suck for shit, and has to be below the fuel level to do it halfway decently. Did you use that piece of shit that I had hanging there? Run one of those pumps dry a time or two and it's toast. And I know I ran it dry a couple of times. That whole car was a hunk of shit. Might have been better had the body not had terminal cancer on the fast track.

lol, yeah that celica was definitely a rusty bitch. one of the worst ones i've seen to have spent most (or all?) of it's life in nc. you didn't even get to see all the rot in the chassis/subframe when we flipped it over in the parking lot one night. yeah, i think the issue was it getting air in the lines somehow with that pump and the stock tank/sending unit. the whole deal was thrown together in a whirlwind on a shoe string budget to make a 4 wheeling trip, so there was a lot of jackleg shit and the fuel system was part of it. it would run fine for a while, then quit. i could unhook the line at the fuel rail, purge it, and it'd run fine again for a while. i've used the e2000 on a handful of other f.i. vehicles when i didn't feel like replacing an intank unit and it's done fine.that was one of the best damn vehicles i've ever owned up until i toasted the 22r, though.
