I'd like to plan a few days here soon to go ride a good chunk of the Blue Ridge Parkway, right around the time the leaves begin to change but before they fall. As some of you know this is has been my first real season riding and it'd be my first road trip, so I'm looking for information, hazards, and general advice into the endeavor. What, besides the obvious, do I need to plan on/look out for? Looking for shit a new rider might not have thought of

I believe parts of the parkway are still closed due to road work. You'll just have a detour that goes down some small road or through the middle of a town. Also, if you've never been to the mountains before it's getting to be balls cold around this time of year. Could dip below 50 around dawn/dusk. I would also plan out where you're going to stay each night, or you could find yourself out in the middle of nowhere scrambling to find civilization in the dark.
