http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/ncaa/09/29/yankee-bowl/index.htmlPretty cool idea. I'm sure there is enough interest in college football in NYC to have a bowl game there. Big East #4 vs Big XII #7 (about even in terms of relative strength in conference 4/8 versus 7/12). If there is good reviews it wouldn't surprise me for this to be upgraded to Big East #2/3 versus another BCS conference #4/5 eventually.

I guess theres going to be a dirt patch in the football field similar to Miami and other stadiums that are used for both baseball and football?]
9/29/2009 3:12:51 PM
Doubtful. There isn't in AT&T for the Emerald Bowl. Remember this will be four months before the first game is played for the Yankees. I'm sure Hal can dig up a few extra bones to re-sod.[Edited on September 29, 2009 at 3:16 PM. Reason : x]

No, they will grass the whole field, just like they do (did) for the bowl games in the Giants and D-backs stadiums

Oh, it's played in yankee stadium.I thought it was like yankee candles sponsorship.
9/29/2009 4:18:26 PM
do we really need more bowl games
9/29/2009 4:43:49 PM
IMO, no
9/29/2009 4:50:35 PM
if there is still money to be made off of bowl games, there will be more bowl games
9/29/2009 4:54:37 PM
This is a bowl game I would thoroughly enjoy going to see. I will have to add it to the to-do list in the next year or two.Glad to see it's official!
9/29/2009 5:04:13 PM
I don't think we need more bowls...but I'd be up for us dropping something else to add this even with an ACC tie in. I'd like to go to NYC for a bowl!
9/29/2009 5:25:05 PM
In general, we don't need more bowl games but the Big East needed to do something...They went, in a matter of months, from 2 guaranteed bowl games against BCS competition (BCS and Gator/Sun) to 5, which is HUGE for recruiting/television/payouts.Now they have:BCSChamps Sports (vs Big 10)Meineke (vs ACC)Yankee (vs Big XII)Papajohns (vs SEC)This is replacing the shitty ass Toronto Int'l Bown for the Big East. Ideally I would love to see this New York bowl game be a success, have the ACC be the other partner and move up in the pecking order to Big East #3 versus ACC #5. That is relative in strength and I think it would be a GREAT SELL to have a matchup of UConn/Rutgers/Syracuse/Pitt/WVU versus Maryland/State/UNC/BC/whoever.That would be a sellout every time and a blast for all the fans... NYC @ Christmas time is the best place in the world...

I know this isn't popular, but I kinda miss getting to see football and baseball played in the same stadium. I'm not talking like Three Rivers or Riverfront or one of those concrete doughnuts. I'm talking like back in the day when the Giants played at the old Yankee Stadium. I know it's better to have your own place, but baseball stadiums just have so much more personality.
10/2/2009 8:36:02 AM
this is a stupid bowl, i don't think the Big 12 should be allowed 7 automatic bowl teams . (out of curiosity, what happens if they don't have 7 eligible?)obviously they spent too much money on building the new yankee stadium and are trying to make up for it by hosting more events outside of baseball season. i wouldn't mind seeing the Rangers play an outdoor hockey game at Yankee Stadium, but a bowl game this low on the list is ridiculous.
10/2/2009 8:52:20 AM
rather see a game at yankee stadium than in birmingham or mobile alabama.
10/2/2009 9:03:41 AM
if they only have 6 available ... 6 teams go and an at large takes their last bowl slot.
10/2/2009 9:14:23 AM
Bttt... I'm still planning on going to this. It's now called the New Era Pinstripe Bowl and it will pit a Big East team versus a Big XII team. Looking forward to it!

Why?
10/14/2010 12:23:41 PM
^b/c it's Yankee Stadium in NYC around Christmas time.if State doesn't make a pretty sweet bowl then I, too, will be there.
10/14/2010 12:40:45 PM
Damn, you're right. The atmosphere will be electric!]

Beats the hell out of Mienike Car Care Bowl, or any bowl sponsor with .com in their name.

Congrats on getting the seventh team from the Big 12. I hear Baylor has a huge alumni base in in NYC.

I'd kinda rather be in Mobile or Birmingham than NYC in the middle of winter, given that both are gonna feature a couple of 6-6 or 7-5 teams.http://web.pinstripebowl.com/images/pinstripe_bowl_seating_map.pdfGranted Ive never watched a football game played in a baseball stadium in person, but I don't see many good seats.
10/14/2010 4:58:05 PM
You'd rather be in Birmingham, where there is every chance of it being in the 30s or 40s in the middle of winter rather than NYC, which it might be 5-10 degrees cooler? Interesting, but to each his own.As far as sightlines and seating, I've been to the Emerald Bowl and the seating was fine. These new baseball stadiums are very intimate... far more intimate than many of the football-only stadiums I've been to. Admittedly, I've never been to NYS though.Frankly, for me, the teams involved are secondary to the novelty of having a bowl game in NYC. I'm really curious to see how New York sports fans respond to a large college sporting event between two non-local teams. I'm guessing it'll be a VERY GOOD turnout.[Edited on October 14, 2010 at 5:53 PM. Reason : avg jan low in birm = 33; nyc =28]
10/14/2010 5:51:36 PM
I might be up there around that timeI'll go if I am, if for no other reason than to dump a nine dollar beer on your head
10/14/2010 5:58:25 PM
10/14/2010 6:05:13 PM
no big twelve school that is 7th in their own conference will travel that far to see their mediocre team. Big ten vs. big east would make more sense
10/14/2010 7:58:40 PM
53-33 in Birmingham on 12/30, historically. Mean temp of 43.38-25 in New York on 12/30. Mean temp of 31.It wouldn't matter as much if one was 60 and the other is 48, but an average high of 38 is fricking cold to sit outside for four hours.Tickets also cost a lot less, as does a hotel and everything else. esp since it's during New Year's and everything will be booked up, I assume.

I hate football games played in baseball stadiums just as much as I hate basketball games played in domes used for football

10/15/2010 8:14:49 AM
^yeah, living in Raleigh, unless I showed up head to toe in something realtree-patterened, I wouldn't be ready to sit out in the cold for that long. If I lived somewhere where it was habitually really cold, I'd prob have more stuff to deal with it.I think it's gonna go over about as well as BC football in Boston does.
10/15/2010 9:17:59 AM
i am so going to this game if a) State isn't in a good bowl game that week and b) I can find a free place to stay
10/15/2010 9:19:04 AM
10/15/2010 9:27:38 AM
I think this idea is pretty good, but I do not see a great crowd unless a relatively local Big East team is playing. The idea of being in NYC around Christmas >>>>>>>>>>>> Birmingham. The problem with NYC is every hotel is $200+ and that makes a big difference. But in terms of actually having things to do other than the bowl game, NYC at Christmas time is awesome. Wonder how'd they'll do things like the pep rallies and what not the way other bowls do.
10/15/2010 9:34:21 AM
I would watch a team I cared about play in Yankee Stadium. I take any excuse I can to go see NYC.
