Because with water on the moon they'll be able to build a base and keep people there for extended periods of time. They'll just need to move one ton of dirt to extract enough water every time they want to fill their big gulps is all.[Edited on September 24, 2009 at 1:42 PM. Reason : -]

Water = Potential for life = Orgasm for NASA.

The real question is how will they stop people on any moonbase from going crazy and becoming homicidal, which is what happens to all people and computers who stay in space for any extended period of time?
9/24/2009 1:46:54 PM
^people already stay in space for an extended period of time on the international space station. (and yes i know you were being funny)

in this situation funny=stupid

So if we get internet on the moon, the latency will be bad. Like 1.5 seconds.

Well assuming there is 32 oz of water in every ton of moon and that this is true for entire moon (idk but that's a bad assumption I'm sure), that would imply that there could be 3,000 times more water on the moon than found in the all the great lakes. The real question is when will I get to buy an overpriced bottle of moonwater?
9/24/2009 2:05:50 PM
Moonwater for sale, PM me.

What about moon cheese? I know its really made out of cheese. It has to be. Since we can't farm on the moon, we can just eat it.

Guantanamo to move to the moon in 2020!

I'm not sure what the chemical composition of moon dirt is (please correct me if I'm wrong) but I don't think it could support plant life. Regardless though, moving that much Earth dirt to the moon really isn't that big of an issue. And also keep in mind that this is only initial observations of water on the moon... there could be a lot more elsewhere (and also a lot less). Regardless, it makes a permanent human outpost on the moon a lot easier, cheaper, and more realistic. Let's just hope that the people who go there don't end up like this guy:

Do Moon people buy bottled water?

Aerosmith now works for NASA and teaches a moon class, which he says, "Walk this way" and points to a Michael Jackson music video.
