I mean I've only been in one. and yes it sucks but everything was always worth it esp. when you love someone that much.

Yeah, you're either going to cheat or get cheated on. It's how things work. If I were dating you I'd probably have started cheating on you about a month after you moved away.

3 years experience with it, trust and believe that it's not worth it.

They're incredibly hard and any weakness in your relationship is magnified.

I don't agree with everyone cheats in long distance relationships AT ALL

That's why you end it. I tried a long distance relationship or two. They're better if you are just fuck buddies cuz then you get laid on the weekends and you are back to being single during the week. It's a win win.

Been there, done that. Long distance relationships are pointless because you still do everyday activities like you're single, yet someone checks in on you everyday. In the end, someone feels the pointlessness and just doesn't give two shits....

The truth of the matter is, if it is meant to be, it wouldn't be a long distance relationship to begin with. If it's real, you would more than likely move to be with them. Since you have decided to not move, you already know the truth, so have some fun first before you part ways for the best.

i don't like long distance, but once the relationship has a foundation i'd probably stick with it, at least for awhile, given distance

I've been in a relatively long-distance relationship for a couple years now.

Freshman year she was 2.5 hrs away (Havelock)
Sophomore year she was 1.5 hours away (High Point)
Junior year she was 1.5 hours away (High Point)
Senior year she was 1.5 hours away (ECU)
Now she is still 1.5 hours away (ECU)

We try and get together every other weekend (or every 3rd weekend) if possible. The longest we've been apart is about 4 weeks and that is a huge drag. During the week we chat on the phone every couple days or so but not every day. I couldn't stand talking on the phone all the time long distance or not. Having a webcam helps.

I think that the only reason it has worked out so well is because of two things. The first is that we weren't close by each other for a few years before being apart. The second is that we're both pretty independent and like our space. This past summer she lived at wolfcreek because she got an internship here in Raleigh. That was nice but by the end of it I felt kinda crowded. I have a feeling that when our LDR ends and we're close by again it's going to be a rocky road until we adjust.

I have been in 2.

First one: She went to UNC Charlotte and I was at NCSU. Relationship was great until she transferred to UNC-CH and was closer. That's when all the arguments started and it ended badly.

Second one: I was in Greensboro and she was in Raleigh. Similarly to the above, relationship was great until she moved to Greensboro. Then the arguments started and it ended VERY badly.

Moral to the story? If you want a relationship to work, keep your distance.

Yea, it doesn't get to that point until she is fine with it though. Before that it's just for chatting back and forth.

the longest we were apart in my last relationship was 6 months.... that was pretty awful

Yea I can see that.... Although, in my first long distance relationship, pretty sure that he cheated on me. He was REALLY bitter that I went to college and he never went to college (he was A+ lemme tell you)

That is the truth though. When both of them moved closer to me, they didn't know anyone so they expected me to be with them 24/7. That is basically what killed both relationships...the smothering. Well, that's not what ultimately killed the second one, but I won't get into it.

This is why I think my current relationship is so great. Even though we live together, we also have our own separate lives. We have our own separate friends that we can hang out with whenever we want, or we all hang out in a group. You know, the way a relationship should be.

It's always weird doing the adjustment after they move to or from wherever.

quoted for truth

It's nice having your own space and being able to make up your own schedule but I enjoy being physically close with whoever, having the ability to cook dinner or cuddle and watch tv with them on a week night or do things like sleep next to someone without needing to work out a schedule.

LDRs are FTL.

^ was your relationship established before you she moved away?

i feel like if there is a solid relationship and one person moves away, it's much easier to maintain.

i don't know if my relationship counts as long distance or not. i think it is just distance because the distance isn't long.

but i still see him almost every week - the longest is 2 weeks.

but i still agree with whoever said that distance relationships magnify all the weaknesses of your relationship. true story.

My boyfriend lives in Texas. Everything is going well so far. We trust each other and love each other and only want each other. We're both huge flirts but it never goes too far. He dated a few years ago and I broke up with him. I think that since he knows what its like to lose me, he won't fuck up again. We'll see

I had two long distance relationships. I guess if the person is worth it, you can make it work. I didn't cheat on either of them and I would miss them terribly. One ended and the other I married.

Now if you are not the marrying type, I would not recommend long distance relationships. What is the point of that?
