i think that even though O Brien says its going ot be a smash mouth game, we score on some quick big plays. they are struggling at cornerback (kinda like us). Could be a shootout, but i think we'll take em.

Pitt strengths: A decent rush offenseAn above average rush defense (I hope they don't shut down our run too much)They average 5 sacks a game... Get your wheels ready Wilson, esp if our O-line isn't up to the challenge.Pitt weaknesses:They have a terrible pass offense. (it looks average on paper. but will be exposed Saturday for what it is)Keys to the game:NCSU has been strong at stopping the run and has had very few mistakes on defense. If they play a full 4 quarters like they did against USC then don't expect PITT to score much more than a pair of TD's. (Keep in mind PITT has ran the ball very well this year so far)PITT has a weak secondary and Wilson will easily exploit it. Expect a pair of TD's from the air, as well as a pair from the 'stable' of RB's. The pack should be able to move the ball fairly well against this average defense if our WR's can come up with some big catches and we keep a balanced attack all game.

I think the pack will do fine if we keep our offense rolling like we have. The defense has played well, USC has put up some points on other schools so it's not like we haven't played a decent offense. I'm hoping for a two score win and some good momentum going into the game against the wake forest naked riley skinners.
9/21/2009 5:15:16 PM
6-0 is still a 2-score win...and a distinct possibility if our offense can't perform against D-I

Didnt Pitt put up over 200 yards passing against Navy last week? The same Navy team that went toe to toe with Ohio State and almost beat them. If we make Pitt one dimensional then we will win HUGE! Pack- 35 Pitt-17

Linebackers Gunn, Mason create good problem for PittSeptember 21, 2009 5:00 PMPosted by ESPN.com's Brian BennettComing into the season, Pittsburgh faced questions on how it would replace Scott McKillop, the star middle linebacker who was the Big East's defensive player of the year in 2008.Three games in, it appears the Panthers have a multiple-choice answer.Sixth-year senior Adam Gunn started the first two games, led the team in tackles and was named the Big East defensive player of the week for his performance at Buffalo.Last week, Gunn had a sprained ankle and couldn't play against Navy. So Dave Wannstedt plugged true freshman Dan Mason into the middle linebacker spot, and Mason responded with an 11-tackle, two sack day that earned him the Big East defensive player of the week award. Now Wannstedt has the best kind of problem for a coach. Which standout player does he go with this week at NC State and beyond?"I don't know," he said Monday. "Once Adam's better, and he expects to play this week, we'll see."You can never have enough good ones, and Danny's just a freshman. We'll continue to play him and on special teams. How much playing time there will be for Danny, I can't tell you."Wannstedt had been raving about the 6-foot, 225-pound Mason all offseason and predicted that he would have an immediate impact. Still, for a kid to be thrown into a situation where he has to make defensive calls and do so against an incredibly confusing offense like Navy's triple-option and perform so well was mighty impressive."Dan is one of those unique guys," Wannstedt said. "He stepped forward and was accountable and got the job done."Pitt's defensive system funnels a lot of plays toward the middle linebacker spot, and the Panthers' defensive line is so active and so good that it allows linebackers to collect plenty of tackles. But someone still has to make those plays. And now Pitt has two standout options there."I look at as a win-win situation," Wannstedt said.
9/21/2009 6:50:50 PM
man, you are all really confident all of a sudden... Pitt isnt a good team by any means, but they arent Gardner-Webb either
9/21/2009 6:56:14 PM
I was impressed with Pitt last week. But with as bad as Navy played, I thought Pitt should have won by a much larger margin. I just can't figure out the stache...Navy got no penetration on their pass rush and as a result, Pitt was able to pass all over the zone coverage. But they still seemed hellbent on running the ball even though run defense was Navy's only highlight of the day.

This will be a shoot out I think. At least one team will be in the 30sOur defense has not faced a O-Line like this.[Edited on September 21, 2009 at 8:00 PM. Reason : dasd]

Pitt is strange and scary to me. They have talent, but Wannstedt is such a terrible coach that he never uses it correctly. You always have to be wary that they actually overcome his coaching and use their talents.I think this will be VERY close and have a bad feeling about it, but we have the better QB and I think he'll make a play or two to win it.Good - 21Bad - 17

Early line has us favored by 1/pick em
9/22/2009 10:10:37 AM
I'm getting to go to this game, first game in a few years since I've moved away so I'm pumped! That being said, I also think its going to be a close game. I feel that the defense is going to give a little more than they have in the other games this season, but still keep the score low enough that we should win if our offense comes out to play and Wilson is protected...2 Passing TDs, 1 Rushing TD, FG for us. 2 Rushing TDs for them:NCSU 24Pitt. 14
9/22/2009 10:13:20 AM
I'm gonna be there too. Pumped as hell. Their Oline is great, but I think our Dline will neutralize them. SC ran on us pretty well in the opener, despite the score, so I'm worried about stopping their run. I don't think their passing game will do too much damage.Offensively, I really think the key isn't so much the Oline as it is Wilson being decisive in the pocket. We all know the Oline is going to struggle with their Dline. Wilson has to have enough presence to get out of the pocket when shit starts breaking down and create something himself. We can't take 6 sacks again.

What I don't want to see-> bad O-line play like we did vs USC, blown open catches by WR's, holding penalties, glennon playing early 2nd quarter if it's a close game, and thus forcing our defense to be overplayed by mid 3rd quarter against a big O-line.What I want to see-> A lot of thisWilson in the ace formation 4 out of 5 plays. Make sure they know the qb can easily scramble for 10 yards whenever he feels like it early on/ or hand off or go long to a WR. And of course I'll go for more play action + pass to George Bryan on a read like he started doing so much in the past 2 games. Those 2 as a pair have been on FIRE. Wilson->George Bryan is like 2 robots on auto-touchdown if you went to the past 2 games. If we can have them guessing enough and warn out by half time, we could have this game blown wide open in a 40-13 win in our favor or something similar. Wouldn't suprise me at all.
9/22/2009 10:37:18 AM
Don't be ridiculous. I'll be happy if we win this game 20-17.
