i'm a little leery about giving some entity all my financial info and access, was wondering if anyone has been using it for a while and can tell me about it
9/17/2009 2:23:44 PM
well they just got bought by intuit (of quickbooks and quicken infamy) this week so that maybe should be a factor in your decisioni've been using it off and on, though i track my expenses in ms money moreso than i end up using mint. i think the security concerns are probably pointless considering whether we know about it or not, various companies have portions of our financial data anyways. mint gets their data from a company called yodlee, which is like the market leader in consumer financial data as it is. have you ever heard of them? nah[Edited on September 17, 2009 at 2:32 PM. I've been using Mint for quite some time and love it!It works very well...I haven't had any issues with it so far. There is an iPhone app for it as well which is really neat. Its an easy way to track all your financials in real time and set budgets for yourself.
9/17/2009 2:32:50 PM
^Yep, me too. The iPhone app really is awesome. They recently added a ton of functionality to the website, it's a REALLY beautiful experience.
9/17/2009 2:34:50 PM
me too. and agreed on the iphone app

I use mint. It's a good tool for keeping an eye on your expenses and assets. It doesn't do a lot of things I would like it to, but it provides a good high-level overview. You don't have to worry too much about your mint account being compromised. They worst that could happen would be that someone knows how much money you have. Also: ?topic=525260[Edited on September 17, 2009 at 2:43 PM. Reason : URL]

a friend of mine uses them and has the app on his blackberry (i think)...i really want to try it outin fact, i'm going to sign up now!
9/17/2009 2:44:43 PM
I use the shit out of mint^ No BB app though
9/17/2009 3:01:27 PM
^ ah, he might just be using his web browser thenin any case...i just set it up...cool stuff, but it can't find my mortgage through NC SECU, which is annoying (it finds my checking account through them, though...they both show up when i log in through the SECU website) also, they can't connect to ING Direct right now (and they say as much when you put it in, letting you know that ING sometimes blocks their connections) [Edited on September 17, 2009 at 3:07 PM. Just started recently. It's cool. Kind of like Microsoft Money, but free. Actually, I like it better than MS Money.

Big fan of mint. Also have it set to send me alerts whenever anything happens (payments, odd spending, budgeting, etc) because my actual banks online interface royally blows.

I use it and like it for the most part. My biggest beef is the the inability to input your own data. I have kept track of my finances pretty close for the past few years and would love to be able to input everything to see my past trends and be able to budget better for the future.Mint will only get about a month of your info when you join then accrues as you go. I joined a couple months ago and have been waiting for any real amount of data to be taken so I can make a better budgetgreat interface though
9/17/2009 4:02:02 PM
^thats odd. When I signed up they went back a lot further than 1 month.

I used Yodlee directly for a while, figuring it was just a good to go to the company who ran the backend system...but once Mint.com put out a iPhone app, I had to switch it all to mint, cause having that info at my fingertips is extra awesome.

on my banks website i can go back to forever ago, but mint doesn't show that far back. Unless there's some option to tell mint to go back im going to file it as a limitation in the connection from mint to my bank. I called my bank a while back after my online account got locked and they said because mint was logging in from multiple IPs it was confusing my banks shit and so they locked the account. The guy also said they were working on fixing it and building better support for mint, so maybe my old transactions will so up eventually.
9/17/2009 4:40:52 PM
Yeah I love mint, but I put too much of my financial info (cc's, loans, etc) into it so it just depresses me every time I log on and see my negative net worth. I haven't been on in a while, but I think I'll check out the changes.
9/17/2009 4:53:44 PM
love iti also like how i emailed and requested a net worth tracker, and BAM a few months later there it is. c coincidence???? I think not.
9/17/2009 5:04:54 PM
i want to use this but i'm nervous about security issues

9/20/2009 8:04:27 PM
I hope they'll be able to integrate future versions of Quicken to the Mint interface.
9/20/2009 8:48:17 PM
^^^uses the same back end as EVERY bank does for their online banking. mint.com knows almost nothing about you. not to mention there's nothing anyone can really do if they were to get into your account. it a service for looking at your money..not doing anything with it.
9/20/2009 9:53:20 PM
I was all set to switch from MS Money then Intuit buys them. No point in getting it all setup only for it to be turned into a subscription service or whatever.
9/21/2009 12:56:36 AM
Mint is amazing. I would easily pay $20/month to continue using it in its current state.
9/21/2009 1:02:42 AM
^^^^ I think we should all just be happy if Intuit doesn't destroy Mint within months....[Edited on September 21, 2009 at 1:09 AM. Reason : ,]

finally connected to ING...it sure is nice to see the monies all together but it still won't read my mortgage information
9/21/2009 7:27:53 AM
9/21/2009 7:51:04 AM
^^ it won't do my SECU car loan either. It picks up my checking and savings just fine. Maybe its something to do with the way SECU has accounts set up.
9/21/2009 9:00:45 AM
yeah, it'll do 12 of my accounts, but won't do my secu credit card
9/21/2009 9:31:43 AM
it won't do one of my banksand apparently i need to call and get my mortgage online access sorted out
9/21/2009 10:17:26 AM
my secu mortgage is all that's missing...but that's a pretty big aspect do i call mint or secu?
9/21/2009 11:32:25 AM
Can enter it manually^ but then you have to update it yourself
9/21/2009 8:13:34 PM
lack of billpay or at least a bill calendar/alert system = suck too plus, the javascript or something on there is just slow enough (even on chrome) to make me want to curse. overuse of modal dialogs pisses me off too.

i cant use mint until they support manual downloads of datamint cant access my bank because there is an image verification feature as a part of the login process
9/23/2009 10:55:10 PM
^mint knew about the images needed for mine and asked me which one.
9/23/2009 11:14:47 PM
9/23/2009 11:22:46 PM
^^same for me. bank of america
9/24/2009 7:34:41 PM
BofA works in mint.com for me. checking, savings, and CC. it never asked about image verification, just my user/pass.
9/25/2009 6:40:21 AM
how long is this even going to be around now that Intuit owns it? Will they roll it into their current products or have they said anything about leaving it be?
9/25/2009 10:32:08 AM
It will remain to be what it is. The founder is also remaining on board to over see things with mint as he's already been doing. Nothing will change except that it only has the potential to get even better.
9/25/2009 10:34:04 AM
ok you guys convinced me to sign up for this shit and it is pretty awesomeonly thing i dont like is that it doesnt pull pending transactions, only shows them after they've cleared.so sometimes that $25 you spent at that no name restaurant isn't visible until a week later. Same idea but smaller time frame for my $texas paychecks
