I've gone in to Registration and Records and paid $10 for my transcript before, but i was wondering if there is a way to avoid paying for it?

I need it to get into a certificate program and they won't accept the transcript i print off of mypack...and i think $10 is a lot to just print out a piece of paper

If you need a certified copy, there's no getting around having to pay $10.

As mentioned, cannot get around it unless the certificate program does grant an exception. And yes, is a lot of money for all of 10 minutes of work to print out a piece of paper and put a seal on it, but, necessary evil.

there's only one place to get them, and that's registration and records. they also charge you $10. what loophole were you expecting to discover w/ this thread?

Don't hate. You can't blame someone for wanting to know if there's a way to save money.

^^^ considering attitudes like that, AND the fact that the university/state has undergone massive budget cuts, the $10 is more than justified. if they have to put up with whining like that, maybe they should charge more.

can we please lock this thread, and talk about something more useful?

^ their time is. seriously, why are you people trying to argue with this? the fee has been there for YEARS. you're not beautiful or unique snowflakes, and you're not gonna get an official transcript for free.

^ The cost of the printing including the time of their cheap-ass hourly staff still doesn't add up to $10 per transcript. When I started NCSU transcripts were $5 each and they would mail them anywhere for free.

do you guys complaining think that the $5,000 that you pay each year in tuition keeps this university in the black by itself?

They can print a black and white copy of your transcript for free, but its not the official version. Other schools don't charge nearly as much for an official transcript.

^^
Let's assume an average transcript is 3 pages...

Cost of paper: 3 sheets @ $0.10 each - $0.30
Cost of ink/printer energy: 3 pages at $0.10 per page - $0.30
Envelope: $0.05
Labor: 5 minutes @ $15 per hour - $1.25

Total: $1.90

Add a shitton of miscellaneous overhead to that are you're still nowhere near $10 per transcript.

I just want to add in that Georgia Tech has printed at least 10 copies of my official transcript and mailed them for free. I think it is stupid for NCSU to charge that much per copy.

The cost of transcripts is high compared to other schools, but the tuition is low. So, we pay later when we have jobs and now we don't pay as much to get the degree.

Really? It's just $10.00.

Annoying fee? Yeah. But how often do you need an official transcript?

This thread is already longer than it should be imo.
