http://www.ncsu.edu/facilities/advertisements/index.htmLooks like they are finally getting the ball rolling on building a new bookstore along with renovations of Talley. $150 million price tag! (3rd bid description down) I have been an advocate of this for a long long time. The bookstore and student center are the most often visited portions of your campus, and our bookstore was especially embarrassing! I am sure this will take years to complete...but its a good start!
8/25/2009 7:45:55 AM
sports?
8/25/2009 7:47:13 AM
Yeah sports...the bookstore may sell books my friend, but the key driver to any bookstore is merchandising. Go to UGA's bookstore, or take a trip to Notre Dame, and tell me it has nothing to do with sports!
8/25/2009 7:50:11 AM
hmAnyways, what's even more embarrassing than the building is the actual merchandise inside. We have the worst fucking apparel of any college in NC. I've worn the same NC State t-shirt to every home game I've ever been to because it's the only one I've ever liked.
8/25/2009 7:56:00 AM
I fully endorse this! I agree both our bookstore and the crap in it has been a joke for a long long time. I hope they build a kick ass building but more importantly make adidas actually make us some respectable gameday wears!
8/25/2009 9:19:03 AM
^^It's because adidas sucks, by and large (CAN WE GO BACK TO NIKE PLEASE??). It's sad when my favorite NC State shirt is the one I got from the student wolfpack club my freshman year. But that is good to hear about the new bookstore. Maybe they'll renovate the merchandise too.[Edited on August 25, 2009 at 9:23 AM. Reason : ]

our marketing sucks too... we've introduced what seems like 10 different logos in the last 5-10 years and they're all fucking stupidstick with the block S and the strutting wolf and we'll be okayand it's not just Adidas... I just wanted a nice looking NCSU polo and you have two choices at the bookstore - a) spend like $80 on a Polo brand shirt or b) wear something ugly
8/25/2009 9:27:35 AM
ahhh don't get me started on our "marketing" department...
8/25/2009 9:31:33 AM
My favorite wolf shirt isn't an NC State shirt at allIts an NWO wolfpack shirtI wear it to every game I go and get mad compliments
8/25/2009 9:32:18 AM
NCSU sports marketing is a mickey mouse operation. I'm also not sure about spending 150$ million on a new store. That is extravagant -- how much shit are they going to have to sell to make up that cost?
8/25/2009 9:32:55 AM
^about $150 million worth
8/25/2009 9:45:45 AM
This thread started with a simple google search. I was in the midwest this weekend staying at a house that got the michigan, michigan state, and Notre Dame book store catalogs and they were F***ing awesome! It just made me sad. I scoured the internet looking for nc state gear, and it sucks so damn bad. Gopack, statefans, espn, doesn't matter....our shit sucks. Hopefully with a new bookstore, comes new merch, and a new merchandising strategy for the university as a whole. The "wolf" concept has so much promise, and should be easy to sell to kids all over the southeast, and the rest of the country for that matter. 2 logos: Block S, and pick one wolf logo and go with it. Get nike, under armour, etc. back into the game, and lets get some cool shit to wear to games.
8/25/2009 9:49:28 AM
^^^I thinks that is for the Talley student center renovation, bookstore, etc. I think they are going to redesign that whole block!
8/25/2009 9:50:34 AM
yeah, a lot of shit falls under the 150mil
8/25/2009 9:55:50 AM
hey slave it's the nwo wolfpacbut yeah you're hitting homeruns each time you wear itand hitting grandslams if you're wearing it with the sleeves cut off
8/25/2009 9:59:52 AM
"I cut the sleeves off my shirts, thats my thing"
8/25/2009 10:03:08 AM
Sorry for the double but the whole merchandising situation at NC State is sort of a chicken/egg argument. If we had cool shit, people would buy more crap. I don't know how many times I have decided against making an addition to my nc state gear because the products available sucked! When we had all that nike gear a few years back, i remember hearing about how we were selling out stores, doing great hat business, and even beating UNC for shelf space at local stores, now it seems that we are back to the dark ages as far as merchandise! New bookstore should help get the ball rolling, that and hiring an entirely new marketing/licensing department!Subpoint: The best place I have found for gear is off of Wade ave by the Whole foods.

I settle for home runsI don't exactly have gunzz to show off anymore
8/25/2009 10:27:49 AM
pshh t-shirts.
8/25/2009 11:01:57 PM
8/26/2009 3:35:31 AM
I still wear and cherish my "WHEN WE HUNGRY WE EAT" shirt.
8/26/2009 7:32:15 AM
This is not Red T-shirt was solid as well
8/26/2009 9:01:21 AM
I remember back in the early 2000's when we had Nike making our jerseys. Those things rocked. Simple, but brilliant at the same time. Try as I might, I just don't like the new adidas jersey. It wins points for re-simplifying things, but loses points with that damn three-wolf logo underneath the collar. Just put the Block S down there and it'll all be good.A big reason our marketing sucks is that it's all done in-house, where other schools use establish marketing companies (ex. ISP in Winston) to take care of that stuff. If any of you guys know any of the marketing people over in Weisiger Brown, tell them to stop signing off on crappy apparel ... and STRONGLY consider going back to Nike when our Adidas contract is up. Speaking of which....when is the Adidas contract up?We really do just need to pass marketing over to one of the big boys, and let them run with it!

8/26/2009 10:51:04 AM
^there's a small fiction section upstairs, fwiw
8/26/2009 10:52:42 AM
true, true.I think I went in there during orientation once.
8/26/2009 10:53:20 AM
Hopefully they will be selling those new kick ass hoops jerseys this year!
8/27/2009 10:19:42 AM
They took the bid down. Guessing that is bad news!

8/28/2009 10:37:13 AM
It doesn't matter where it is, that place is a palace. You could put it half way to Atlanta and it would blow ours away. Its like visiting a shrine to UGA sports. I wanted to move in and stay for a while!
8/28/2009 10:44:03 AM
In addition to a big State fan, I am also a big Georgia fan, hence dawg in my user name. The funniest thing I have ever heard about UGA's bookstore was from an LSU fan the year UGA destroyed them in Athens 45-16 in 2004. An LSU cheerleader's mom looked at a family member and said, "It's all RED and BLACK in there." What else do you expect when you walk into a school's bookstore. I don't want to see Duke or Wake stuff in ours unless it's the gameday shirt.^They renovated it about 4 years ago. I love how the lyrics to the alma mater are along the wall with pictures from UGA's campus and athletics.[Edited on August 28, 2009 at 10:47 AM. Reason : GO DAWGS]
8/28/2009 10:45:51 AM
^my sister played volleyball at UGA and I always love going to games down there!
8/28/2009 10:51:00 AM
you don't think ours would get a few more visitors and be more geared towards athletics if it was over next to the RBC Center?[Edited on August 28, 2009 at 11:29 AM. Reason : .]
8/28/2009 11:29:31 AM
yeah but it wouldn't be very conveinent for students who need books and suppliesThe only way to have it that way is to have an on campus stadium
8/28/2009 11:31:27 AM
The bookstore probably got more business when men's bball was played in Reynolds. Most of the stands at the games that sell NC State stuff is our bookstore.
8/28/2009 11:31:48 AM
maybe the bid was taken down because it was awarded??? I know....wishful thinking.
8/28/2009 12:34:25 PM
^that was my first thought, but as a long time NCSU follower I remain pessimistic!
