I played Fable II and honestly thought it sucked as an RPG. The concept was kinda cool but the execution and gameplay were horrible. What really blows me away is my friend played Oblivion for an hour, said it sucked, and quit playing. Yet somehow Fable II is more of an Action RPG and more fun to play!I don't get it but whatever...

I've played oblivion for near 100 hours and I still hate it...it's weird like that

You hated the game and still played 100 hours. If people hate oblivion it is understandable as I do not expect everyone to enjoy RPG games. Nonetheless I do not see how you can not like Oblivion but think Fable 2 is so awesome and a great game. Fable 2 is like a watered down Oblivion.

Fable 2 is like Oblivion with less overall content but a better-designed combat system. It's understandable why one player might like one but dislike the other (though I for one cannot understand why either side would even bother when they could just pick up anything Bioware has ever made and have a much better time).Oblivion appeals more to the expansive-world sort of RPG players, plus it has that attempt at realism (of a sort... essentially realism in a fantasy world). Its story is extremely shallow and barely exists (relative to other, better, RPGs), and the combat is mediocre.Fable/Fable 2 appeals more to the hack-n-slash level-up-till-I-can-kill-everything sort of RPG players, plus you have a dog. Its story is (relatively) cliche and bland, and the NPCs are almost all 0-dimensional (as opposed to the 1-dimensional NPCs of Oblivion... at least Oblivion NPCs can potentially say something of value, even if they are all played by the same four voice actors). It's all sort of a moot discussion, though, as they're both sub-par RPGs overall. Both of them have that pretend-freedom aspect of open-world/sandbox games that seems to yank in some players. Really, Yahtzee in the ZP review I posted a few posts up puts this pseudo-freedom gimmick best:"You can, but why would you want to?"All that said, I think most of my time in Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fable, and Fable 2 was spent stealing things. It was really the only aspect that I found appealing or even particularly fun. Then again, I'm one of the crazy people who actually likes the stealth genre (a lot). In retrospect, I should have just re-played Thief 3 instead.

Yahtzee biases my opinion of games hard fucking core. For that i hate that guy.I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.

Eh, just don't let every major (really, most are just minor but glaringly stupid) design/development flaw he points out get in the way of enjoying a game, especially one you like or think you would like. For example, if you like brainless and empty NPCs, a cliche/unoriginal/shallow story, virtually mindless and repetitive tap-button hack-n-slash gameplay, and a semi-large/semi-free-roaming environment packed full of meaninglessness and lacking any actual purpose, then don't let any of those valid criticisms stop you from playing Fable 2.
