an ipod of mine broke 50 days over its warranty. I spent hundreds of dollars on this for just a year's use....but it was always cared for, never dropped, etc. Is there a place that will open up an ipod and assess the problem? It can't be anything major...has the apple store ever given someone a refurbished ipod in this type of case?

ive heard stories of apple doing warranty work after the official warranty period... it can't hurt to take it to them to see what they say.but, is it a flash based ipod or hard drive based one? What exactly is it doing?

take it to the apple store, be very nice to the geniuses, sound pathetic. since it's so close to the warranty expiration, you might get lucky.if not, i'll take a look at it for you if you'd like.when you say it won't turn on, do you mean nothing comes on at all? no backlight/LCD/etc?

they don't "work on them"... they give u a refurb for whatever their "repair cost" is

If you have an outdoor power outlet you don't use and an old microwave you don't need anymore, you could always have a little fun with it. If you want to throw an old backpack in there too you could even take the resulting slag into the Apple store and say "Look what this iPod did in my backpack!!" Just be sure to have a friend video tape the employee reactions so we can watch afterward. Also, run very quickly and fairly far away from the microwave after you turn it on. About 5 minutes on high should ensure the desired results; iPods can take astonishingly long in the microwave for some reason.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On9N0D0IF_ASkip ahead to about 1:50 to get past the annoying intro crap.[Edited on August 21, 2009 at 9:59 PM. so the ipod turns on. "My Computer" shows that the files are on it, but the actual ipod shows nothing on it, the music/files are not displayed on the ipod alone. It also doesn't show up in itunes when its plugged in. ideas?

that sounds a whole hell of a lot different than "won't come on"

well it didn't come on originally, and it came back from the dead
