http://www.charlotteobserver.com/423/story/895653.htmlCould be a good move for the fans if new ownership rebuilds bridges with Charlotte and the surrounding community, and makes a commitment to winning.

http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2009/08/johnson-might-pull-team-off-the-market.htmlUnfortunately he is considering pulling the team off the market soon. The team has tons of debt and liabilities, and it looks like he wants to get paid what the franchise was worth BEFORE running it into the ground. If the team does not get a new owner soon, the Bobcats will be stuck in limbo with an owner running the organization on the cheap, not signing new contracts, etc. and could really be abandoned by the fans. Two other questions:1) Since the team was basically named after Bob Johnson, would they get a new name under new ownership?2) Are sports teams more or less recession-proof as corporate boxes have become a much bigger chunk of the ticket revenue pie?[Edited on August 19, 2009 at 5:17 PM. 1) I don't know. I'd like to somehow get the Hornets name back, but I also am not as SUPER PISSED about the name Bobcats as some people2) Normally they are "more recession-proof" (which is what you meant) than many other industries, but when many of those corporate boxes are often bought by some of the companies with financial issues, those companies pull back luxury expenses, like corporate boxes. Plus your average joe has a tougher time buying regular tickets in this economy, even though his tickets arent going to cost as much as a corporate box

^Yeah there are arguments for both sides. On one hand, in a short term recession the corporate boxes are paid for and locked up. When companies cut nonessentials, though, there are fewer promotional options to cut your losses and get people into the building (where they buy overpriced beer and food) for a box versus ticket packs, but you could argue either way on which is easier to resolve.

The new owners should change the Charlotte Bobcats to the Carolina Cougars, reconnecting to the pre-Hornet days.http://www.remembertheaba.com/Carolina-Cougars.htmlIronically, the Cougars relocated from Houston (home of the perspective owners), and were coached by none other than Larry Brown.
