My girl friend is going to back school at a community college to get a Nursing degree. She already has her Certified Nursing Assistant along with a 4 year degree from another college outside of the state. She is having trouble finding student loans for this year. FAFSA won't give her money because they consider getting a nursing degree a lateral move so its not like she going for her masters or phD.She has a found a few "we'll give you money if you work for us for 4 years" type of nursing loans but of those require the person to have lived here for 5 years. What other avenues can she seek for student funding/loaning?

Community college really isn't that expensive. Pell and so on won't cover a lot of it?What about scholarships? If she keeps looking, I'm sure she can find some funding source(s) that will help out.

I know she has called the FAFSA people trying to get a loan but they wouldn't give it to her because of the lateral thing. I don't know if she has looked up a Pell Grant yet. It's hard to dig around for scholarships but the ones she has found has requirement that said she had to lived in NC for 5 years or more.

^^^You can't get a pell grant if you already have a bachelor's degree.
