Not a car door, a metal-skinned front door to a house. My son whacked the front door of our vacation rental three times with a hammer. The landlord of the rental was right next to him and I saw him do it too. I was working on a project, hence the hammer...So the door has three dings on it now, about the size of a baseball in total area. There is a part that has a decorative indentation/panel and the ridge was dented. The door is solid wood but it has a ~1/4 inch, hollow skin of metal on both sides. Only the metal is damaged. The landlord is being a prick and wants to replace the door, which he has quoted at $500.00.... He won't let me try to fix it for whatever reason. He is holding my deposit until a "Pro" fixes it or replaces it.My question, is this something that the paintless dent removal guys can do? I don't know if they have to get behind the door, ie pop the skin off. It will need to be repainted but he says he has the paint.I know I could do this easy with some bondo and a sander and know some body repair guys could too. Just wanted to know if there was an easier way...[Edited on August 10, 2009 at 9:07 PM. Reason : d]

the only easier way would be replacing the door.

Yeah, the price on his door isn't bullshit though... I know that different car guys can repair road rash on rims, pop huge dents, whatever so I'm hoping there's a chance.

they might can do itbut i doubt it's going to be much cheaper.

The dent wizard guys usually run some kind of tool on the inside of the door and push the dent from the inside out. I'd doubt they can get their tool in there to work the dent out if it really is a solid wood core, but you could always call them to find out.A little bondo and paint would make it 98.279% better for $50 though.[Edited on August 10, 2009 at 9:25 PM. Yeah, they'd have to peel the whole skin off it that was the case. It's held on by silicone and whatever else and they probably have to take the whole skin off w/o creasing it.Who would I even ask about the bondo? For whatever reason, this guy wants a "pro", haha. I'm thinking of a Craigslist ad for a contract auto body guy, but I don't want a crackhead showing up with a dremel and 100 grit. Rather just get a guy who has a day off and needs some cash.

An auto body guy would be the "pro" who could slap 1 ounce of bondo on it, sand it, and paint it for him. $50 was probably a "jackleg" price for that type of work, but no way it should be $500.

don't know if the dents are too small or the metal too thick for this to work but it might be worth a try.[Edited on August 11, 2009 at 2:27 PM. Reason : -]
