I noticed a computer showing up in the "shared" section in the finder on my Mac. Then it disappeared a couple minutes later. Should I be concerned that whoever has that computer may have had access to my files?

well, you should check your Sharing preference pane and make sure any shared files/folders are not Read/Write to "Everyone" and only to certain accounts. but, you maybe should be more concerned about other computers on your network. Is this your home LAN? Is it password protected? Are you expecting any other computers on your network?

Hmm, might it be someone leeching off my non-protected wireless router? I've been meaning to password-protect it.

if you didn't have file sharing turned on you're probably fine. were you at home/library/? if you're on the same local network it's not unusual to see someone's computer show up but it doesn't necessarily mean anything about access.^ that's probably exactly what you saw. i'd suggest at least putting some security on your router... if for nothing else than keeping your bandwidth to yourself, unless you just want to share it.[Edited on August 10, 2009 at 9:01 PM. Well, I just got done password-protecting the router and even set it only to allow my laptop's MAC address (I'm aware they can be spoofed) but I still see the mystery computer in the "shared" section. I just don't want someone downloading kiddie porn on my DSL account.[Edited on August 10, 2009 at 10:13 PM. Reason : :]

I'd suggest opening Terminal and do a killAll Finder. see if that gets rid of it. Finder may just be remembering that the computer was there.
