My buddy went to fire his car up this morning.

It wouldnt turn over, but not fire. then he gave it gas, while firing and it would start up. run for a quick sec then shut off.

does anyone know what the problem could be?

I heard there was a big push to get the crank position sensors on these cars replaced, which might explain the problem.

I hear the spark on these cars are pretty sturdy,

maybe fuel filter or fuel pump?

Car was running just fine the day before and he drives it everyday.

thanks guys

fuel pump/fuel pump fuse

check the fuse first cause it's easier and cheaper

It will turn over, and if he hit the gas it would fire. but not keep running.

I was thinking fuel pump/fuel filter as well.

thanks guys, I appreciate it.

Sounds like fuel delivery problem to me. Probably a bad fuel pump. Could be clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump relay too.

Probably the idle valve......that would have been my first guess, or a vacuum leak. Fuel pumps are pretty common as well.

If your friend needs any BMW work done, skip the dealer and come to me. I'll save them a stack of cash.
