This thread is for anyone looking for a running buddy.I'd like to start getting together with some folk after work a few days a week to run.Personally, I'm looking to run some of the singletrack out at Umstead around 6pm, but I'll run pretty much anywhere.Anyone interested in meeting up?

You need to go to a dedicated running forum because you're WAY ahead a lot of people here conditioning wise.
8/3/2009 4:34:48 PM
There's some pretty decent runners on here.I just need motivation to actually RUN. I'll run any pace between 6:30/mile-10:00/mile.Just trying to rekindle my love for running. I used to be decently hardcore a few years ago.
8/3/2009 4:44:12 PM
only do 6 miles at a time at mostso i wouldnt be able to help ya, but good luck its a good idea
8/3/2009 4:45:13 PM
Hell, man. If you wanna run, lemme know. I'm running between 3-8 miles/day myself. Just depends on what i've got going on.
8/3/2009 4:51:15 PM
Any people here planning to run the Raleigh Marathon, Medoc Mountain Marathon or OBX Marathon this year?I'm interested in running any of those and would be interested in building a support team with someone.
8/3/2009 5:11:20 PM
If I lived in Raleigh I would love to do some of the trails out at Umstead, but I'm in Greensboro. I'm doing on average 5-7 mile runs a day, sometimes twice a day if I feel really motivated. If anyone out this way wants to start running let me know. ^I'm looking for a half marathon in the spring, and a full marathon this time next year.[Edited on August 3, 2009 at 5:12 PM. Reason : ^]
8/3/2009 5:12:05 PM
I'm doing the Raleigh Marathon (City of Oaks).
8/3/2009 5:12:09 PM
I'm trying to decide between the three I mentioned in my previous post. Have you run the Raleigh marathon before? If so, what are your thoughts? How hilly is the course? Is it a good Boston qualifier?I'm also considering flying to San Fran to run the Nike Women's Marathon, because finishers receive a Tiffany necklace.
8/4/2009 8:07:38 AM
I heard Fail Boat knows the physical condition of everyone on TWW.
8/4/2009 8:13:01 AM
^^if you are going to be anywhere near the cutoff time for Boston, then Raleigh is probably one of the worst in the area to try to qualify for Boston with because it is relatively hilly. Your best bet out of those three is the OBX marathon. I ran the Kiawah Island marathon last year and it was an extremely fast, flat course. Plus it's right near Charleston, which is fun. If I were in Raleigh, I'd be glad to meet up with you people for some training--especially some trail runs.
8/4/2009 9:02:57 AM
Anyone trying to jog? lol
8/4/2009 9:39:04 AM
I used to live close to Umstead but still work at the Cary mall so I can make this work. let me know. I usually will do 10 miles at a 8:00/mile pace but have gotten into biking a little more. I think I want to do the half marathon for City of Oaks. But anyway count me in for the 'club'
8/4/2009 2:23:43 PM
^^^ I have to drop 13 minutes to qualify for Boston. I've heard Kiaweh is perfect. And it's ideal for me, living in Florida, since it's flat. However, I have tons of free places to stay on the Outer Banks, so it's probably best for me to go that route. Thanks for the feedback.

I picked up a Garmin 405 today...freaking love this thing. Definitely looking forward to mapping my own trails, etc.Cheerwhiner, I'll send you a PM soon and we can try and get up. I doubt i'd be down for a 10 miler anytime soon...but I'd be down to run with you as long/far as I can.
8/6/2009 11:22:28 PM
I'm gonna do the OBX Half-Marathon.I want to do two more halfs before I do a full, that way I will have 5 under my belt before I attempt a full.I might be interested in running Umstead with you, only I will probably do it in boots and utes with a pack on.[Edited on August 7, 2009 at 12:08 AM. I ran yesterday morning before work, and decided I wanted to buy a new Garmin. So I stopped by Dicks Sporting Goods on the way home from work, charged it up for a few minutes, and headed back out to Umstead to test it out on some singletrack.Worked GREAT! Honestly cant ask for anything else from this watch. It never lost signal with the satellites (even under some pretty thick tree cover), gave me real-time mile/min pace, let me know when I dropped behind my target pace & exactly by how much I was behind, etc.Got it home, walked up to my computer and it automatically synced and uploaded my data to the Garmin website where it charted my run on a map, showing Umstead State Park and all my speed/elevation statistics.[Edited on August 7, 2009 at 11:22 AM. Reason : .]
8/7/2009 11:20:16 AM
I'm WAY out of shape I run a 12 minute mile and have to walk it abut every 1/4 mile... first time I need to run for my life, I'm a dead man.
8/7/2009 11:44:53 AM
2 miles20 minsnot too fast, but whatever
8/7/2009 7:33:07 PM
^ahaha, motherfucker. I said I was playing with the damn watch.Lets go run sometime
8/9/2009 8:09:26 AM
i meant that's what i ran that day, lol..and your watch is cool as fuck.

Does the 405 have an altimeter? I ask because GPS elevation is pretty terrible (~10m accuracy vs ~1m horizontal) and on rides and runs you'll get some fairly off results for elevation, worse the longer your activity. Before Garmin rolled out Garmin Connect, you could use MotionBased which included an elevation correction feature which was quite a bit better than the watch though it wasn't without flaws itself (going over bridges gave you the elevation of the ground, not the bridge, easily worth 3-400 ft of gain on CSHs Saturday metric). Garmin Connect doesn't have elevation correction, at least it didnt a few weeks ago when I last uploaded. It's my only regret about the 305, I wish it had an altimeter for elevation.

Has anyone here run the disney marathon? Looks like I am doing that one, per coaxing from my friends.I imagine I shouldn't bother to try to BQ with this race, eh?
8/9/2009 11:08:24 AM
So I probably can't even run a half a mile, but I'd love to meet up and struggle along with any other n00bs who'd like to try and get into running. I'm between raleigh and durham alot, so I could meet up about anywhere near 40/ncsu/durham if anyone's interested.
8/9/2009 11:23:15 AM
^Not trying to be mean, but I don't think running as a group will be very productive if you can't even run half a mile. My advice would be to work up a decent base by running solo and then come out to group runs when you can at least run a 2-mile or a 5K without having to walk. Then divide into pace groups based on similar ability. If you can't run half a mile, then meeting with a group of people who can run much longer than that may only be discouraging.[Edited on August 9, 2009 at 4:50 PM. Reason : ]
8/9/2009 4:49:40 PM
i agree, and you will be trying harder than you will be able to. Its not a good idea.
8/9/2009 6:54:37 PM
I don't want a group, just maybe another person who could help motivate me to get off my ass and not feel like a complete loser cause I can't keep up.
8/9/2009 7:32:30 PM
I'd volunteer but i doubt you'd want to run/jog with me and i doubt our hours would mesh well.
8/9/2009 7:47:54 PM
Anyone tryin to jog off lineberry?I'm Astraladvent and i approved this message.
8/10/2009 1:29:33 AM
Not another approver of their own messages! Are you just Big Business in disguise?
8/10/2009 9:12:06 PM
go to Lake Johnson only because the 1/4 mile markers are labelled for you. Try to add some distance each time. The dam to the boat house is the easisest without a doubt.
8/11/2009 4:58:35 PM
Anyone live near Durham? I'd be up for running on Tues., Thurs., Fri., after 6:30 or Sat/Sun morning if anyone's interested . I run about 9 min. miles- up to 5 miles.
8/11/2009 5:45:46 PM
Tir Na Nog sponsors a run every other monday starting at 6 p.m. The run is free and you get free food afterwards, and I guess they offer drink specials as well. You can opt to do 3 or 5 miles. I've nearly had a heat stroke everyday that I've been running this week. Damn this august heat
8/11/2009 9:57:56 PM
4 or so miles tonight through East Durham: awesomefalling off a curb and twisting my ankle: not awesomerunning away from pit bull with fucked up leg: totally not awesome.
8/12/2009 8:42:00 PM
More awesome than if he had caught you.
8/12/2009 9:03:29 PM
I'd do a 9-10min mile/pace in the evenings at umstead, I'm right off 70/duraleigh, so that's pretty close9-10 min/mile for 5k+ distances though, I'd like to be able to chit chat whilst jogging too, never been to umstead either
8/13/2009 11:42:08 AM
Anyone doing Umstead tonight? I kind of feel like running there today.[Edited on August 13, 2009 at 3:09 PM. Reason : if my quadriceps tendinitis feels better.]
8/13/2009 3:08:49 PM
I'd be down for tomorrow @ umstead, ~5:30...had a legs day at the gym today...really shouldn't run on these suckers for another 24hrs.
8/13/2009 3:59:55 PM
yea, so I'm going to run for ~30 min or ~5K distance around 5:30pm at Umstead today(8/14)gonna start at the trail near the welcome center off the HW 70 entrance..feel free to show up, I'll be in a superman shirt
8/14/2009 10:15:04 AM
Just signed up for the Disney marathon in January. This will be exciting! Let's see if I can drop those 13 min and finally BQ.
8/14/2009 1:39:51 PM
Good luck. Disney's supposed to be a fun one.
8/14/2009 1:55:30 PM
That's what I hear! Though I may still do Kiaweh Island bc I really want to qualify for Boston this year.
8/14/2009 2:02:27 PM
Every wednesday night at 6 we have a group run out of TrySports in crabtree valley mall. Turns out that most wednesdays are everyones speedwork days so typically we do mile repeats or tempo runs, but we vary in ability. Most of the time the store will have some watermelon waiting for us at the end of the run, and it a great store for all of your running/triathlon needs/wants. Come out and join us!good luck at the disney, 13 minutes is a lot to drop!
8/15/2009 11:48:11 AM
Tell me about it. But I'm not as fat as I was back then. 10 lbs lighter, so that should help.
8/15/2009 11:49:59 AM
i've been running lake j again. i'm guessing by wednesdayish i'll be able to complete the lap
8/15/2009 8:02:14 PM
how long is a lap?
8/15/2009 8:03:45 PM
about 2.8 I think
8/16/2009 12:10:30 PM
The paved loop is 2.86 miles. The unpaved loop is 1.64 miles. There's an out-n-back spur near the 2.5 mile marker that is 0.32 miles. The spur and paved loop make a nice 5k.The path between Lake Dam and Gorman is 0.77 miles one way.
