For Physics 208 there is the lecture, lab, and then a problem session that is scheduled 1 night a week for an hour. Can anyone tell me about this problem session and if it is mandatory to attend.

I didn't have a problem session, and i have never had a problem session and a lab for 1 class, especially not a BS class before your major even starts.

idk, when i took py208 we didn't have a problem sessionwe had three lecture days a week and a lab meeting a weeki have py203 in the falli have two lecture days and a lab meeting a week and one problem session a weekmaybe it's an excuse to pay a ta instead of a professor for a day, $ta<<$prof ?

if there is a lab also, attendance to the problem session is probably not mandatory. there was no problem session when i took it (about 4 or 5 semesters ago). enjoy python tho

I'm thinking that they probably just have that problem session there to hold that time slot for tests since the problem session is Tuesday nights, so methinks it won't be mandatory.

^good thought, I bet that is correct

even if it is "mandatory", i doubt they'll take attendance and i doubt it's anything you'll need to attend unless you just really suck at physics or something. you can teach yourself this stuff. plenty of stuff online if you don't understand something.^^that sounds like the reason why. we had our 205 and 208 tests on tuesday nights (never any problem session to sign up for) and a lot folks would have to either miss another class or take it at some special time. they're probably trying to avoid that.

god forbid you have classes, labs, and problem sessions for your education. I mean really, what are these educators thinking????? Giving you opportunities to further yourself is complete garbage!

i would hardly consider taking py208 aka basic high school physics as "furthering yourself"

I have relearned everything i learned in 208 and probably about 30% of it was relevant directly to my specification. As always engineering just teaches you the same shit over and over again in more detail. Either way.. you shouldn't be worried about this class, there are freshman in it and they will make sure everyone is in the right labs/classes on the first day if shit is wonky and abnormal.

Just wanted to know if i could commit to playing in a beach volleyball league on Tuesday nights. Not too worried about the difficulty of the class thanks.

i wasn't really commenting on difficulty, just saying they go out of their way in these first year classes to make sure people are registered for the stuff they need to be. Because they sure as hell don't tell you at orientation.
