ok so basically i tried to reset my router because 1) the connection was slow, and 2) i couldn't remember my login info, so i was trying to go back to the default "admin" and "password." now the network light isn't lit up, and neither of our computers recognize the network. i tried calling netgear, but they won't help because the warranty expired. google pretty much turned up zilch

you may want to, you know, actually give a make and model for the router in question

Is this the reset procedure you tried?

Quote :
"
1. Press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks. This takes about 10 seconds. (To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)
2. Release the button.
3. Wait for the router to reboot.
4. Log in with the default password.

If the router configuration was not cleared, try these additional steps AFTER the router has finished rebooting.
5. Unplug the router's power.
6. Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
7. Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
8. Wait for the router to reboot.
9. Log in with the default password.

"

If so, do it again.

have you plugged directly in to it? Does that work? If so, then FTP and check the settings. You may have wireless turned off...

Oh. Its a wireless network.

Assuming the reset went ok, there should be a wireless network called "netgear" that has open authentication, no encryption.

However, in the first post you said the "network light isn't lit up" so most likely the wireless is disabled in the router and you need to connect your computer to it with a Ethernet cable, login, and change the settings.

There is also a chance something is wrong with the router because default behavior out of the box should be to broadcast an open network with no encryption.

sometimes it will disable the wireless. since you are saying the wired bit works, check that.

Connect directly into it. This could turn out to be a PITA if you don't have a long enough network cable and need to move your computer... but it beats buying a new router.

this is why all wireless is fail. I keep a pc as a 'guest machine' that is always plugged to my routers and AP boxes, nice easy access to wired ports for stuff, and I have wireless access to the control panel turned off.
