Every year around this time I have to remind my aunt about the year this movie opened. It was a seemingly normal Saturday afternoon and she was doing what any good natured 20 something aunt would do for her 8 year old nephew; take him to the ole theatre!

So here is 8 year old me trying to explain what Hocus Pocus is about after seeing like one 30 second trailer. "There are these three witches, one is old and mean, the other is fat and ugly but the third one is pretty and fun and really likes boys!"

For whatever reason she wasn't having some overtly sexualized SJP corrupting her sweet, innocent, do-no-wrong, little nephew. No amount of begging or pleading swayed her mind and my choice was vetoed. How we actually got to the next part escapes me, I don't know if it was MoviePhone on the way to the theatre, or if we were going to the mall and could afford to gamble with showtimes, but what we actually ended up watching was that Elijah Wood Macaulay Culkin flick "The Good Son" where this terrible kid who pushes his baby sister into an icy pond, likes to kill dogs with this souped-up sling shot or a pellet gun or some shit spends the entire movie framing his step brother or half brother and ultimately puts his mom in a no-win life or death situation where she's forced to choose which one she saves.

tl;dr 8 year old me just wanted to see babysitter perfection c/o Allison and maybe some SJP cleavage but got denied. Forced to watch Kevin Mcallister kill a dog in cold blood, push his sister onto thin ice and all kinds of other twisted shit instead.
