I just got my invite, so far it seems really useful. You pick a phone number and when it's called, it rings all of your phones. It also transcribes your voicemails to text, and sends them to you in an email.

lolgrandcentral
7/16/2009 6:07:33 PM
I'll give it a try if they ever let me port my existing number(s). Otherwise, the features don't seem game changing enough for me to bother with the hassle of changing phone numbers.
7/16/2009 6:16:12 PM
I use it just so that I can give out the google voice number to people i don't want to give my real number to.
7/16/2009 7:25:58 PM
i've had mine since it was grand central...it's the number i use for all craigslist stuff and as ^ said abovei nabbed a second number with my other account...this one's a seattle area code

^^
7/17/2009 6:45:46 PM
^^^ Me too but just recently started really using it. Free transcription etc is great. The real problem so far is that people need to know your gv number and your real number, because if you call them from your phone and they've replaced that number with the gv one, they may not know it's you calling.
7/17/2009 6:47:23 PM
if they could kindly hurry the hell up and send me my invite, i'd be much obliged
7/17/2009 8:14:18 PM
^^hopefully we'll be able to port numbers soon.it's nice that they're letting people change their numbers now though - mine is SO 1337
7/18/2009 12:57:43 AM
invite me
7/18/2009 1:18:09 AM
Well yeah, they're letting you port numbers, but I don't think they're going to let you use a currently active number as your gv number while keeping it associated with your cell also, are they? That's the only way my complaint could be helped.
7/18/2009 10:37:10 AM
I've got an extra invite I'd be willing to trade for something. Maybe a good torrent site invite or idk, lemme know what you've got. Hit me up on AIM, I rarely check PMs anymore.
7/18/2009 11:50:54 AM
Invite gone
7/18/2009 10:02:20 PM
7/18/2009 10:05:01 PM
^you obviously have not seen the very granular call blocking and redirection controls in GV.
7/19/2009 12:45:24 AM
Any idea when porting like that might be available?
7/19/2009 9:50:48 AM
it will quite literally take an act of congress since wireless providers currently do not (have to) provide LNP
7/19/2009 11:42:22 AM
invite please!
7/19/2009 11:47:29 AM
I too would like an invite.
7/19/2009 2:26:10 PM
porting is coming soon, be patient
7/19/2009 3:06:52 PM
that will be quite awesomenow if they implement some kind of VoIP so we can avoid using cell phone minutes and just get an unlimited data package then that'd be l'supercool
7/19/2009 5:06:38 PM
woo finally got my invite
7/19/2009 5:22:20 PM
How many invites can a person send?[Edited on July 19, 2009 at 5:29 PM. Reason : \/tjb's comment was making me wonder about it.]
7/19/2009 5:25:16 PM

7/19/2009 5:26:14 PM

7/19/2009 7:43:14 PM
I didn't see where i could send one out. I would go ahead and just sign up on your own.

I had two numbers with GrandCentral. I ported one of them over to Google Voice, but I've left the other on GC. I wonder how long they'll let me keep the old GC service. Honestly, I haven't been impressed at all with the time it takes for them to notify you that you've got a voicemail with GV. One time a friend of mine left me a voicemail on a Saturday and I didn't get the email notification until the following Monday. Other times it's taken a few minutes or a few hours. Seems to be pretty random. Anybody used GV enough to notice a delay on that sort of thing?
7/20/2009 8:27:18 PM
its been seconds for me
7/21/2009 12:49:47 AM
Yeah I've been using it since Friday and I get the voicemail within a minute or so.
7/21/2009 8:14:29 AM
Sweet, I'm about to get my SERO plan reverted back to FF500 @ 30.00/month and get my google voice number added as a pick 3 option. Unlimited calling what what?
7/21/2009 10:38:44 AM
Great Success!
7/21/2009 5:10:38 PM
Internal Server Error for anyone else?
7/22/2009 9:50:11 AM
just got my invite, but its having trouble verifying my phone :-P.
7/24/2009 1:08:59 PM
Oh Snap. I just setup my Grandstream SIP phone with Gizmo5 which now has seamless Google Voice integration. How long until GV buys Gizmo and just offers a GV-SIP service?Anyway, just search for any/all of those terms if you want a quick walkthrough. Shaggy, you should hop on this since the MagicJackoffs wtfowned the ability to bypass the usb dongle and auth with their sip servers. So far I do not see any downside yet.[Edited on July 26, 2009 at 6:16 AM. Reason : .]Basically, create a Gizmo5 account and enable the Google Voice option.https://my.gizmo5.com/gizmo5/app?class=MySip;proc=startAdd your Gizmo5 1-747-***-**** number and be sure to choose Gizmo as the type.https://www.google.com/voice#phonesFollow Gizmo's SIP guide.http://support.gizmoproject.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=409&nav=0,31

lol some dingbat put it all in a slickdeals thread.http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=1471803
7/27/2009 10:54:04 AM
Yea i created my gizmo account when i got my gv account, but i was too lazy to set it up with my ata. Correct me if im wrong, but you'd still need to use the gv software to dial out for free.
7/27/2009 10:56:10 AM
Nope, Gizmo will let you use google voice to make outbound calls. Even if they didn't just streamline the shit out of it, I'm sure you could have programmed some calling card/speed dial nonsense like I have in this here cell dialer.919.xxx.GOOG,,,PIN,2,{phone}#[Edited on July 27, 2009 at 12:59 PM. 7/27/2009 12:52:06 PM
hahahaha god damn that is fucking cheating
7/27/2009 12:53:24 PM
I know rite? I'm wondering how much it will cost once a million people get hooked. You can even spoof your caller ID on gizmo for 4 bucks a year. Seems too good to be true.lolMagicJack
7/27/2009 1:00:58 PM
Speaking of cheating...This would make it so super easy to have secret lovers call without a partner ever finding out.
7/27/2009 1:07:47 PM
or unlimited calling without your cell provider finding out Though I think I have a few 60 minute incoming calls that have shown up as Unavailable. This troubles me.
7/27/2009 1:31:34 PM
my company pays for my cellphone so im not to concerned about outbound cell calls. My biggest problem is i get terrible reception at home so i need a hard phone, but my call volume is not worth justifying paying x/month for service.
