Anyone done it? I need it for a club. Saw phpBB, liked it on several other forums ive used in the past. I know it does security by sections which I need.If I do it:Im intending to somehow put SQL of some sort on a VM. Linux preferred. 1. Can it be done?2. I know shit about SQL. Any ideas and advice is greatly appreciated. Help will be paid in beer and pizza.

i believe phpBB can easily by made to use phpMyAdmin, so you don't really need to know SQL that well, just need to have a general idea of how databases and tables works.if this is on a hosted webserver, most hosting companies offer a "1-click install" that sets up the forum and you just go in there and configure it the way you want.

done it quite a few times.PM me if you want, i'll walk you through it. it's pretty simple.^phpBB uses a SQL db on the backend that is provided by a SQL server of some sort (MySQL, for instance). phpMyAdmin is a graphical frontend to MySQL.if you need to edit the phpBB tables, you most certainly can, but you shouldn't need to - just about everything you can do is in the admin gui.]

^ forgot about it, and I love it too, am tracking it down as we speak.Someone also was saying PHPbb is very unsecure. While Im not posting bank data on this, Im not below expecting someone to hack it to really use whats on there (note I always expect someone to hack my shit, but normally just for shits and giggles). Anyone comment on this?[Edited on July 16, 2009 at 12:32 PM. Reason : !]

^ .... no comment

^ i wouldnt recommend pirating it, if its a public site. vbulletin is pretty aggressive about getting illegal copies taken down. and getting security updates would be a little more difficult.
