So I'm trying to upgrade my car stereo. I had a JVC-HDR1 that came with my car when I bought it, but I'm looking to upgrade to the JVC-HDR50 that has the USB and Aux in on front of the faceplate.

As far as I can tell the requirements are exactly the same and I don't need to change the mounting or anything else. It looks as if it is as simple as placing the old connection to the new stereo. Anyone have any idea if it as easy as it looks. I have no qualms paying a professional to do it, but if there is no need, then why do it?

I'm not going to be installing any other external components or an amp or anything else.

i did a complete install on my own -- changing most everything -- and it wasn't too bad. you should be able to handle it very easily if you don't have to change any wiring or anything. just make sure you disconnect the battery from your car before you start. and read the instructions carefully before starting.

also you need to know how remove whatever dashboard or console components or whatever that is keeping your stereo in place.

as long as it's the same size (I assume single din) it will just go right in, you may need a wiring harness, but that's cheap

the harness should be the same but jvc did recently change thier harnesses.you may have to re wire it. if u don't feel comfortable doing it i'll go in and wire it for you for 15$. let me know

Check out crutchfield.com. They are by no means the cheapest online, but they send you everything you need - like wiring harnesses - and detailed instructions so you can self install.

I second crutchfield. you'll pay a little more than most places, but as ^ said, you get EVERYTHING you need to isntall it, instructions, and lifetime support for the equipment you bought. when you buy from crutchfield you're not only buying a project, you're buying a lifetime service, that is worth it IMHO.
