I need to find the carrier for a 866 number to subpoena phone records. I've tried intelius.com but it didn't come up with anything, and TWW always seems to get the answers when it comes to tracking down shit. Any ideas?

you're gonna have to give us more backstory

so a telemarketer left a message on my answering machine (i'm on the do not call list) and leaves a message. under federal and state law (i'm in va now) i can collect $500-1,500 per offense, and there were 5 offenses that i have identified. the case got moved from small claims to general district court so it's more formal and i need to subpoena records to prove the case. subsequently, i need to identify the carrier of the toll-free number so i can get the records tying them to the company or whoever they farmed the task out to and start working backwards.

no attorney, too much $$$, the case is simple enough if i can get the carrier information.

I highly doubt this company will just roll over and shell out thousands of dollars to you. you are not special. you have no legal counsel. this company probably does the same thing to hundreds/thousands of people. the fact that this company is still afloat tells me they aren't losing these battles in court. as soon as you sue them, their lawyers show up and you end up looking like a fool.
7/13/2009 6:28:29 PM
only one way to find out.
7/13/2009 7:26:41 PM
i don't get why someone would actually go through with all this? I mean, filing for a subpoena over a damn phone call is one of the most retarded things I've ever heard of. Bitching about it is one thing, but going to court is another.

easy money, most people are too lazy

Since calling a house on a "do not call" list for soliciting is a pretty black and white offense, I think this is actually just a pretty nice and easy way to collect a little money and to sharply correct a company's overly aggressive bullshit tactics. Laws like this were put into place so you don't have to put up with stupid assholes harassing you about things you don't want, which you should more or less be entitled to on your own private property in your own home.If you get the $2500-$7500 for those five phone calls all I can say is props to you for pursuing it and getting some easy $$$. Certainly not a bad thing to have in times like these.

7/14/2009 9:20:25 AM
What are the calls in reference to anyways???
7/14/2009 9:37:08 AM
mortgages
7/14/2009 10:39:19 AM
So were you looking at buying a house recently, like the last 90 days? Or are they just calling out of the blue to ask you if you want a mortgage, lol? (Not necessarily aimed at you, but to others who may be unaware...) If you talked with a Realtor in the last 90 days and provided them w/ information, they can give that info to their partners, including mortgage brokers - it's a PITA. They are not under enforcement of the registry as it is an "established business relationship" (even though it really isn't). You can tell those people to quit calling and to take you off their list and they can be fined if they don't. However, you'll have to prove that you told them to cease calling...

I hate that loophole

Could be that he is currently holding a mortgage and getting calls from companies that want him to refinance so they can make a little money. I believe that this has been happening to my brother recently. He's had his house for years.
