(All of the other similar topics are old and outdated, or unrelated)I have an intern who came in today from Turkey and is going to be in Raleigh for about 6 weeks, and then traveling the US for about a month past that. We need to get him a cell phone so he can communicate with all of his contacts here. What are the best options? I'm aware that Wal-Mart has some you can buy, but I don't know how many minutes it comes with. The one I saw was like $15 and you got double minutes when you buy minutes. Then there's Verizon, AT&T, and all the other major companies that have their own phones and deals.Any suggestions?

Check out AT&T's prepaid phones. Great phones at good prices. AT&T still subsidizes these phones even though there is no contract. Win win.I got a Sony Ericsson W350 for about $55.

Who cares about the best? He's an intern. For less than $50 they can get him a phone for 3 months with a couple hours of airtime.

I have NET10. I got an LG phone for $50 and it came with 300 minutes. There are other phones (say, one without a camera) for about $30 that still come with 300 min. Extra time is 10 cents/minute which is pretty standard for prepaid phones. Texts are a half-minute penalty, aka 5 cents. Your remaining balance is shown on the home page screen, which makes it easy to keep track of how you're using your minutes. All you have to do is buy the phone and register/activate on NET10's website. It's really easy. How many minutes might he use? There are some programs that give you deals like 150 free when you buy 1000, etc.
