Can anyone tell me what's the new tax bracket will be in NC. I've read the articles about the tax-increase coming, but couldn't find the specific increase anywhere.

Nice. I've often wondered when they'll just cut to the chase and go ahead and have us fill out their bank account number on our direct deposit forms we fill out for our employers. Then they can decide how much more we owe them... because "the state needs the money."[Edited on June 12, 2009 at 10:45 AM. Reason : -]

work harder, lazy people depend on you.
6/12/2009 10:51:41 AM
Time to move to a state with no income tax?
6/12/2009 10:53:52 AM
you people sure do bitch a lot
6/12/2009 10:56:19 AM
i bitch about my hard earned money being wasted by an over stepping, ineffective and grossly inefficient government body. You're damn right, and everyone else should to. How hard is it to balance a budget based on your current revenue. Its not like every time I want to do something at my house I get paid more at work.
6/12/2009 11:18:47 AM
Can we please switch over to a fair tax or a flat tax? Maybe privatize education?

This is just their way of recouping a small fraction of all the money they are giving to Oblinger and Nielson for doing nothing.

if someone makes over $200k and they want to bitch about the tax hike, they can suck my nutswaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, we can't go to the bahamas for our family vacation this year because dey took our munny! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!as for the sales tax increase, that's awesome...if you don't like it, buy less stuff
6/12/2009 12:12:08 PM
if people like you had their wayhigh earners would have the shit taxed out of themeveryone would have free health carebut who the fuck would want to put themselves through the 8-12 years of hell it takes to become a physician?
6/12/2009 12:23:45 PM
People with a genuine interest in providing medical care and a passion for helping their fellow man without their primary thought being how they're going to be compensated.Better doctors, basically.
6/12/2009 12:26:40 PM
Actually, speaking for myself, I'd rather they find ways to spend less rather than raising taxes on anyone.
6/12/2009 12:29:47 PM
^^I actually agree with you on that, but there aren't enough mother teresa types in the world to fill the need that solely base their pursuit of medicine on altruism. On the opposite side of the spectrum there are equally few who are in it solely for the money(there are too many easier paths to a lot of money). The majority of doctors consider both altruism and compensation (among other lesser factors). If you reduce compensation enough, they will find other professions that fulfill their professional/personal desires. Of course my argument is flawed in that not all high earners are doctors and useful members of society. There's lawyers. Maybe they should have different tax levels for different professions. The problem is that while most of us would have no issue with lawyers being taxed more, the people making the laws are, for the most part, lawyers.

fucking pork barrel spending...
6/12/2009 1:07:30 PM
People saying they work harder than the average poor person: give me a fucking break. If you don't like it, bump yourself down a notch. Take a job pouring concrete for 9 hours a day for less than $10 an hour.
6/12/2009 1:13:58 PM
6/12/2009 1:34:13 PM
the part that really gets me is they raised the taxes b/c of the budget shorfall caused by the recession....but when the tax base is back to normal levels, are they going to repeal the taxes? No, they're just going to spend more until the whole cycle repeats itself.
6/12/2009 1:37:57 PM
^ agreed...and i'm not arguing the fact that the state's budget is poorly managedBUT that is the case for most governments in a capitalist culture...take away the advantages of being in power and you're going to level the playing field for people who don't suck at their jobs...it's the same in EVERY state to varying degrees due to the factors that govern the states' economies (which makes it hard to compare one state to another)i am amused by how many people think that, in general, an widespread economic problem can be pinpointed to a single person or even a relatively small group of people
6/12/2009 1:44:04 PM
Just because hard working people have to cut spending in a down economy it doesn't mean the people eating from the public trough should cut back. What are you? Some kind of Ayn Rand fanatic!

^ do you pronounce your username as "you swallow"?

I dont know what to think about tax raises to fund state government in these times...I look at two extremes...The first is raising the gas tax. People bitch about it, but it makes absolute sense. People are driving more efficient cars, and when prices go up, people drive less, all meaning less tax revenue, yet we are building more roads every day and maintaining the ones we already have. Something has to give. Its unfortunate that this means an increase in the tax rate, but you should be offsetting the expense by either not driving as much or driving a more efficient vehicle. This is a place where tax increases make sense. If you think the roads are so good they can be allowed to get a lot more pot holes, then raising taxes does not make sense. The second scenario is tax raises for programs that you dont feel serve the public need. These are programs that only help certain individuals, but cost all tax payers a lot of money. Its hard to swallow a tax increase when you are suffering to support what 'you' might consider wasteful programs.I think the problem is that there is a middle ground that is often ignored in politics. There has to be cuts to wasteful/non-required spending during tough times, but at some point there are programs that are too valuable to cut too deeply or those short term cuts will have much longer term costs and effects that will go well beyond any fiscal year savings. So, in that light, I would support increased taxes to cover short falls for programs that would cause the state long term damage.Should be enough text above for people to rip apart my argument, so I'll leave it at that for now.[Edited on June 12, 2009 at 2:28 PM. people saying they work harder for their money than most poor people: give me a fucking break. if you don't like paying more taxes, bump yourself down a notch and take a job pouring concrete for 9 hours a day. then your $9 an hour paycheck will be taxed a percent and a half less.
6/12/2009 2:50:01 PM
we should all be taxed at the same percentage regardless of income level, over a certain income. "raising taxes on the rich" is nothing but class warfare and does nothing except fleece most of the populace in regards to how much the government takes from its people.
6/12/2009 2:51:49 PM
I am perfectly ok with taxing the rich and can only hope to bitch about it if I ever become rich.
6/12/2009 2:57:44 PM
6/12/2009 2:57:49 PM
that was an example. im saying it's ridiculous to think that because you have more money, you worked harder than someone who has less money.
6/12/2009 3:04:53 PM
is it fair? no.does it make it more difficult for that particular tax bracket to afford the necessities? no.in theory, does it generally improve society for the full range of tax brackets by supplementing those groups that may not have the means by which to support themselves with the necessities? yes.
6/12/2009 3:05:16 PM

so saying a doctor deserves more than a construction work is extreme? an engineer deserves more than a cashier is extreme?a teacher deserves more than a stockboy is extreme? not that all of them require the same education & money to get there. the point is, education, training, skill, responsibility matters [Edited on June 12, 2009 at 3:49 PM.
