So about a week ago my car started acting funky. First I felt a weird vibration in the accelerator. Then my tire shredded while driving. So I brought it to the shop, they said the two were related, gave me two new tires, and done. Well I can still feel the vibration. Its not anything out of control, but something I know wasn't there before. Also, sometimes when I start up the car I hear this clicking noise, it goes at a constant pace like "Click-click, click-click, click-click", coming from the engine area. After the clicking stops I can hear the engine revving at the same pace quietly and the tachometer raises just slightly every time it revs. Any idea what is causing this? I told the shop to check out the engine but apparently they thought it was fine.

maybe they didn't properly balance the new tires.

the clicking doesn't sound like anything to worry about to me. sounds like a 12 yr old car.

does the car have adequate oil level?

does it sound like :
valve lash tick
rod bearing knock
injector tick
timing belt / water pump / tensioner

maybe you should just have someone who knows car sounds to listen while you start it up

Yeah I definitely am not one to know car sounds. At first I thought maybe I had just gotten a shitty oil change because a week ago was about when I was due for a new change, but I got my oil change and its still making the sounds. It doesn't do it constantly, the vibrating typically happens over 50mph or so and the clicking sound/revving only happens every now and then.

But with the vibrating - its probably not something someone would notice if they didn't drive the car regularly, its not like shaking, just a slight vibration.

I'd think valves ticking. Some cars do that and it's normally not anything to worry about. Still, check to make sure the oil level isn't low. It wourldn't hurt to run a high detergent oil (most any synthetic or "high mileage" oil) from now on in case there is an oil passage that is blocked.

As for the vibration.. they probably didn't balance the tires properly.

first check your oil level. if all good, have valves adjusted and map sensor replaced.

As far as the irregular idle issue, I don't know how many Honda engines I've seen with issues relating to the IAC valve. The engine pulses at idle, primarily due to the IAC not being able to find equilibrium. The older ones could be adjusted to even it all out. I don't know about the newer ones so much, though it looks like I'm about to learn. My '03 Accord with the K24A4 engine is starting to do this.

I guess the first conclusion that I come to is this: it usually happens on higher mileage engines, and my guess is that it has something to do with vacuum at idle. Something I want to read up on when I get the time.

attached to the throttle body is the IAC with lines running from the coolant system (at least if they haven't changed the design).

it has a metal mesh screen that gets dirty and clogged. spray it out with throttle body cleaner and make sure it drains completely. car will be super awesome afterwards.
